What's the difference between karate and taekwondo?

1, different origins:

Karate:

Karate is the product of the combination of traditional Japanese fighting skills and Ryukyu martial arts Tangjia players, which originated from Japanese martial arts and Ryukyu Tangjia players. Tang hand was introduced to Ryukyu from China martial arts and developed with local martial arts Ryukyu hand, while Japanese natives combined wrestling and throwing techniques from Kyushu and Honshu with Tang hand, and finally formed karate. After the second world war, it was widely spread around the world through the propaganda of the US military.

Taekwondo:

Taekwondo originated in the Korean peninsula, evolved from Taekwondo and Hualang Road in the Three Kingdoms period in South Korea, and is a popular martial art in South Korea.

The word "Taekwondo" was named by South Korean General Cui Hongxi in 1955. When General Cui Hongxi was studying in Japan in his early years, he studied karate at Songtao Hall in Japan and integrated it with traditional Korean martial arts such as kicking and fighting into Taekwondo. In a word, modern Taekwondo is one of the martial arts sports that originated in South Korea, which combines the skills of contemporary East Asian martial arts.

2. Different emphases:

Karate:

Karate includes kicking, hitting, wrestling, holding, throwing, locking, twisting, anti-technology, acupuncture and other techniques, and some schools also practice weapons.

Karate often uses both hands and feet in competitions. In the routine (style), the technique is the main method, and the leg method is a straight line. Take Kobayashi Liu Quan Club as an example: Among the eight sets of moves that must be mastered before the black belt, only the simple straight leg method such as forward kick appears, and the advanced style can be seen by side kick, and the straight leg method is also the main one. However, in the actual competition, there will also be back kicks (taekwondo is called horizontal kicks), side kicks, back kicks and other actions, but most of them are very calm and solid, and there are few aerial leg movements and turning movements.

Taekwondo:

Taekwondo is a martial art with legs as the main method. The flexible use of footwork in actual combat is of great significance to ensure the full play of leg strength and the victory in actual combat.

When using the leg method, the hind legs attack, so the footwork of Taekwondo has distinct characteristics, that is, the center of gravity falls between the two feet or deviates to the front foot, and the body posture is mostly in the lateral position to protect the body and the key parts below, and the hind legs turn to the hips by twisting the waist to increase the strength and speed of hitting the ball.

3, the rules of the game are different:

Karate:

In the competition, one side's effective attack leads to the opponent's instantaneous loss of combat capability or obvious shift of center of gravity as the scoring standard. Whoever gets a point first in karate sparring will have to start over.

Taekwondo:

Taekwondo sparring allows hands and feet to attack continuously and score points. Hit the effective scoring position accurately and powerfully with the allowed technology. 3 points for hitting the head, 2 points for rotating kick and back kick; Other techniques get 1 point, and judges don't get extra points for reading seconds.

The highest score of a technical action is 3 points, and the effective scoring parts include abdomen, ribs and parts of the face that allow attack. If an invalid scoring position protected by the protective gear is hit with an allowed technique, the score will be calculated when the opponent is knocked down.
