Is square dancing really good for your health? Does the action need to be standardized?

Square dance is not limited by time and place. It can be said that you can dance whenever you want. But this is actually a misunderstanding. Some people get up early for the square dance and don't eat breakfast. As a result, they suffered from hypoglycemia or even syncope because they danced square dance on an empty stomach. Some people often dance late at night. In the long run, it will not only disturb the rest of neighbors, but also lead to some chronic diseases.

So, if you want to dance square dance, you can't. It is recommended that you exercise 1 hour after meals, and do not exceed 1 hour at a time.

In life, many old people like to go dancing in the park on an empty stomach in the morning. Experts pointed out that dancing on an empty stomach is prone to exercise hypoglycemia, while dancing immediately after a full meal will affect digestive function and induce gastrointestinal diseases. Old people can dance after meals 1 hour and warm up for 5~ 10 minutes before dancing, such as jogging, brisk walking and leg press. Exercise should be gradual, and don't suddenly increase the intensity and amount of exercise.

When dancing, it is best to wear a pair of shoes with the functions of buffering, supporting and protecting ankles, such as sports shoes and soft-soled shoes. Try to choose a place with good air circulation, few people and non-slip ground. You can dance indoors in foggy days, windy days and rainy days.

After jumping, you can do some stretching exercises at home and relieve fatigue by taking a bath and massage. Patients with hypertension, diabetes and heart disease should consult a doctor before dancing. You should not dance if you have a cold, fever or drink.

Square dance combines physical movement, balance and coordination of limbs, music experience, social communication and other factors, which can stimulate emotions, promote social communication and expose patients to auditory stimuli and music. Not limited by venues and equipment, it is simpler, safer and more interesting. It is easy for the elderly to integrate dance into their daily lives. It can be seen that among the nine controllable risk factors mentioned in the above article, square dance can improve obesity, lack of physical activity and social interaction.

In recent years, researchers at home and abroad have paid attention to the influence of dance intervention on cognitive function of elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment. Staff's research [2] performed dance intervention on 30 elderly MCI patients (≥60 years old) in Greece. Compared with the 30 control groups that did not receive any intervention measures, the cognitive function and physiological state of the intervention group were improved after receiving dance training for 24 weeks, twice a week and 60 minutes each time. Research of School of Nursing, Peking Union Medical College Hospital [3] 35 elderly people with mild cognitive impairment in two communities in Beijing were studied. Both the control group and the intervention group received health education, and the intervention group added regular square dance training, at least 60mim each time, at least three times a week, for a total of ***3 months. The results show that square dance can improve the cognitive function of elderly patients with MCI, especially the memory and executive function, and may delay the transformation from MCI to dementia.
