Lonely and hopeless, how to solve the mental health problems of international students?

As a returnee who has studied abroad for five years, this problem can be said to be deeply rooted in my heart. In fact, studying abroad is an exercise for all students, not only to learn advanced overseas technology, but also to exercise psychologically.

When I first arrived abroad, English-speaking countries were ok. Especially in countries with small languages, communication is difficult. Many times, what you say, the other party can't understand. I remember when I first arrived in Italy, I didn't attend the preparatory course at that time, and English speakers couldn't understand it, so I could only describe it in simple words. How embarrassing is it? I went to the supermarket and bought a bottle of oil, but I don't know how to say oil in Italian. I can only say "yellow, like water, for the kitchen" to make the other person guess that I want to buy oil. As for salt, I can only explain "white, sandy and salty things" embarrassedly. Is it a bit like what you drew and guessed? If you can still feel a little fun at first, after a long time, you will feel overwhelmed and sigh deeply.

The discomfort in life is just the tip of the iceberg. People are social animals, and the most difficult thing to overcome in studying abroad is loneliness. Being overseas, without the care of parents, there are few Chinese and few friends around. Basically, Chinese people are still obsessed with China people, and most of them can't integrate into the circle of foreigners. After all, this involves the differences in values and survival patterns of different races. As a result, over time, international students can only communicate with such a small group of companions alone. Once there is a contradiction, the circle will become smaller and lonely.

So, they curled up in the dormitory and played games all day to vent or paralyze themselves. Only in the virtual world can we feel that little happiness and talk to strangers. Because they don't want to face the strange world, they have no friends and relatives, only their own frustration.

So, how to solve the psychological problems of international students? First of all, we must overcome the language barrier. Language is the most important aspect. Only when you can speak a foreign language fluently can you communicate with others without obstacles, so that others can understand you. Second, it may be difficult to go out bravely at first, but try to open your heart, join some school clubs and make friends, and try to eliminate this loneliness in the interaction with the crowd. In either case, only by going out on your own initiative can this problem be fundamentally solved.
