The physical examination of seafarers must be carried out in a hospital with the qualification of physical examination of seafarers. According to Article 14 of the Measures for the Administration of Health Certificates of Seagoing Seamen in People's Republic of China (PRC) (No.5216), the medical examination institution shall meet the requirements of the medical examination institution that carries out the occupational health examination of seagoing seamen, and its chief physician shall meet the requirements of the chief physician for the occupational health examination of seagoing seamen. Health certificates issued by medical institutions and chief physicians that have not been published by People's Republic of China (PRC) and China Maritime Safety Administration are invalid. The right to issue a health certificate automatically terminates when the chief physician leaves the physical examination institution he reported.
