Positive and negative effects of stress

Stress reaction is an emotional state caused by dangerous or unexpected changes in external conditions, and it is a possible psychological factor in decision-making psychological activities. Also known as "pressure" and "tension". Refers to a person's nervous state when he feels threatened physically and mentally.

Stress can be caused by physical, psychological, social and cultural factors. However, these stimuli can not directly cause stress, and there are many intermediary factors between stimuli and stress, such as people's health status, personality characteristics, life experience, coping ability, cognitive evaluation, beliefs and the quality and quantity of social support, which can all play an important regulatory role.

When under pressure, a series of changes will take place in the internal organs. After the brain center receives external stimuli, it transmits information to the hypothalamus, which secretes adrenocorticotropic hormone (CRF), and then stimulates the pituitary gland to secrete adrenocorticotropic hormone, which makes the body in a state of full mobilization, and the heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, muscle tension, metabolic level, etc. have changed significantly, thus increasing the body's activities to cope with emergencies.

There are two manifestations of the individual's response to stress:

One is that activities are suppressed or completely disordered, and even errors in perception and memory appear, showing unsuitable reactions, such as dumbfounded, scrambling, and being in a dilemma;

The other is to mobilize all kinds of forces to actively respond to emergencies, such as using quick wits to act quickly and get out of trouble. Under pressure, the biochemical system changes dramatically, the secretion of adrenaline and glands increases, and the vitality of the body increases, so that the whole body is fully mobilized to cope with unexpected mutations. Being under stress for a long time is harmful to people's health, even dangerous.
