How to make a wish

Buddhism often says that wishing is to set the goal of learning Buddhism. Everyone has different intentions, so the content of the oath is different. If you want to go to the paradise of the West, you can cross your hands and make a wish to the West every day before going to bed: "I would like to be born in the pure land of the West, take the nine-product lotus as my parents, see the Buddha and realize that there is no life, and retreat without the bodhisattva." If we sincerely practice bodhisattva, we not only hope to achieve ourselves, but also hope to benefit all sentient beings, so that all sentient beings can hear Buddhism and be separated from life and death. We can make a wish like this every day: "May this merit spread to all things, and we and all sentient beings become Buddhas."

In a word, all our efforts should be focused on the corresponding goals. Only by setting a goal in life can what you do be targeted. For example, if we want to buy a house, we will try to make money and save money. If there is no direction, money will be spent as soon as it is available, and even if it is earned, it cannot be accumulated. The same is true of practice. After we have a clear goal, all the merits we have done will have a clear destination and will grow day by day.

Wishing is a sincere wish from the heart. When we recite the oath, we should ask ourselves: Do I understand the true meaning of the oath? Is my wish from the heart? If it is a sincere wish and is consolidated repeatedly every day, then this wish will certainly play a role in promoting and guiding the healthy development of life.
