How to cultivate compassion?
For countless generations, every creature has been our family and our enemy. Everyone has hurt us and helped us. So I can't say whether to hate or love. In this way, our equality is cultivated. We give up greed for relatives and friends and resentment for enemies, which is called giving up boundless mind. Why is it boundless? Because the opposite of the heart-all beings are boundless, so are the merits we get. Equality is the premise, and then it is easy to show compassion. If there is no equality, it is difficult to show compassion, so we should treat them equally. Will say compassion, always talk about compassion, I am compassionate, he is compassionate; This sympathy, that sympathy. But they are not true compassion, because these are not equal hearts. Many people are very compassionate now. Compassion for the poor, but not for the rich; Show sympathy to the benefactor, not to the enemy; Show sympathy for people in trouble, but don't show sympathy for people with better family conditions; Show sympathy for ordinary people who have no power or influence; Don't sympathize with powerful people. Seeing that someone is short of clothes and food, you can be merciful; But when I see someone eating and wearing, I can't remember compassion. See someone sick, or no one to take care of, will be merciful; But for healthy, cared-for people, they can't remember compassion. These show that our compassion is different, and the compassion in Buddhism is no different. We don't know what compassion we should show to all beings now, nor do we know the most pitiful place for all beings. No food, no clothes, no place to live and no one to take care of them are all temporary difficulties. Poverty cannot be poor forever, and wealth cannot be rich forever. Poor health can't be poor forever; Good health cannot last forever. Some people are in charge, no one is in charge, and it is not constant. Everything changed in an instant. What is the most pitiful place for all beings? Even ignorance and stupidity are reversed, which is also the root of the suffering of all beings. In fact, all beings simply don't know the truth and truth of all laws, and they are all mysteries. Take pleasure in suffering, take no self as your own, and take impurity as your net. Whether they are rich or poor, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are healthy or disabled, whether they have a home or not, whether they are cared for or lonely, they are equally miserable in ignorance and ignorance. What we think runs counter to what we do. Everyone wants to be happy, but nothing he does is the cause of happiness. Therefore, every living being feels different troubles and pains from different angles in different environments. Only by thinking in this way can we show the same compassion. When we truly understand the root of the suffering of all beings, our compassion is easy to cultivate; But we haven't understood this yet, so our compassion is limited, conditional and different. See if our compassion is like this. Especially for those senior officials, those who hold high positions and take bribes, of course, they will not show sympathy and even say, "What's so great about them!" " For those with superior conditions, for those who are more arrogant, of course, you will not show sympathy, and you will insult them. This is not compassion in Buddhism. The compassion of Buddhism is to treat every sentient being equally. What kind of compassion and compassion do you have for your biological parents and children? You should also have such compassion and compassion for every living being. This is what Buddhism calls compassion. Many of us now are not merciful in Buddhism, but a kind of compassion. However, many people have no compassion, let alone compassion.
