According to incomplete statistics, there are about 42 million gay men in China, but about 3% gay men account for 27% of the AIDS population. This also means that "male+male" has become the hardest hit area of AIDS. CCTV has reported that gay men are an important driver of the rising AIDS epidemic in China. Moreover, gay men have long been listed as the key population of AIDS epidemic prevention and control by China CDC.
The reasons for the high HIV infection rate among gay men include unstable sexual partners, physiological characteristics of rectal mucosa and lack of protection.
First: disobeying sexual morality and having multiple sexual partners. Although the number of gay men is small, there are many but not fixed partners, and most of them have poor sexual morality. Once a person is infected with the virus, it is very easy to infect many people, which leads to the large-scale spread of AIDS. This is also the most important and critical factor.
Second: special sexual behavior. Different from heterosexuality, when a man expresses his love for another man, it is often enthusiastic. Moreover, due to the physiological structure of men, anal sex is extremely common, and because the rectal mucosa is generally much more fragile than the vaginal wall, the rectal mucosa is easily damaged by external invasion, and even causes laceration and bleeding. HIV is easily transmitted through blood.
Third: poor awareness of sexual protection. Because same-sex and gay men don't need to consider the possibility of pregnancy, their awareness of sexual protection is weaker, and most of them don't take safety measures during sex.
Fourth: lubricant factor. Because of the particularity of men's physiological structure, men often use lubricants during sex. Because it contains mineral oil and other substances, it is easy to make latex brittle and rupture, thus increasing the risk of HIV invading the human body.
Fifth: gay men have a stronger desire. The susceptibility of gay men to HIV infection is also related to their stronger sexual impulses. Compared with heterosexuals, gay men tend to show stronger sexual desire and often provoke their own desires in a short time, making them need sexual contact frequently to solve them.
Sixth: enema. Sometimes when men have sex with men, they will have rectal irrigation, which will cause damage to rectal mucosa, especially improper irrigation, which will aggravate mucosal damage, which undoubtedly opens the door for the virus.
