Why did I choose to be a life coach?

I called a friend I haven't heard from for a long time the other day. She asked me, "What are you doing now?" I said, "Life coach." There was silence on the other end of the phone for about ten seconds. I was so quiet that I wondered if I was disconnected. Then, her voice came over the phone: "You don't want to be an environmental engineer? What the hell is a life coach? "

When I was studying advanced mathematics in my twenties, I had no idea that after more than ten years, I would take a completely different road from the expected "golden section". Similarly, at the age of 30, recalling the tortuous road when I was young is a bit like a previous life.

After studying and working in the field of environmental engineering for thirteen years, why did you choose a career completely different from your previous professional education background? Wouldn't it be a pity?

I am an idealist. I always have been.

From small to large, no matter what you do, you will always find a sense of meaning. After the college entrance examination, when I chose my major, I tragically chose a major that was shivering at that time-environmental engineering. The meaning I set for it is: I want to make the earth cleaner and more beautiful through my own efforts.

Supported by this meaning, I studied hard for ten years and got an undergraduate degree and two master's degrees. Three years of work experience after graduation, like sulfuric acid, corroded the pillar of meaning that I have been living on. No one cares about "new technology", and the data in the final report submitted to the leader is the most important. Data can be changed. And it only takes a few seconds.

So for a long time, I was a little at a loss. The light beam that has been illuminating the road ahead gradually darkens until it finally disappears. I don't know where to go. My heart began to crack slowly, and then it fell off like a wall that had been in disrepair for a long time. While picking up the pieces in my heart, I squeezed a stiff smile at the disgusting life.

The turning point happened a year ago. My good friend Keiko introduced me to a life coach, Judith.

At that time, I was being messed up by life. Lack of sleep, untidiness, doing meaningless work during the day and hanging around the children at night. Every sleepless night, I see life standing in front of me like a giant. He put his arm around me and looked down at me and said, "Give up, you are no match for me at all."

So, before I met Judith, I had no idea that there was another career in the world that could make your life better and happier. Later, I was tutored by Judith, and after three months, my life was completely new. Get up and run at 5: 30 every day, read books and meditate every day, and go out for dinner and chat with my husband alone every month. I got into the habit of planning and arranged my life in order. I began to consciously take care of my heart, learn mindfulness and learn positive psychology. I can concentrate more on enjoying my time with my family and start thinking about my future career direction. With Judith's help, I slowly opened the fog in front of me and saw my true self.

I wrote an article "How My Life Coach Completely Changed My Messy Life", which recorded the whole process of my teaching for three months. )

Life coaching is a career that can help you realize your dream life. Through a directional and strategic process, with the help of powerful questions, we can help the coachee to clear his mind, find the blind spot of thinking, explore the potential inward, discover the possibility outward, set goals, implement plans, and finally realize his dream life. After personal benefit, I began to read books and materials about life coach, wrote articles to let more people know about life coach, and launched a group coach program for my mother on the platform of lifelong learning and mutual assistance for my mother. Until April this year, I participated in the coaching training authorized by ICF (International Coaches Association) and am currently practicing and practicing coaching techniques. It's like life has given me one gift after another.

Why did I choose life coach as my career? There are three reasons.

1.? Life coach gave me a sense of meaning.

Before I do anything, I will find out why. For a life coach, it gives me a helpful job, which can help others to pursue and realize the life they want. When I help others, I feel great value and happiness. I am willing to help others find what they can't see, to build a beautiful vision for the future, to clear the obstacles encountered in the pursuit of ideals, and to build a ladder step by step until they touch their dreams. I am willing to share the pain and sadness with them, and I am more willing to celebrate every little success I have achieved in my struggle with them. Through my company and help, let others' lives become better. This is why I chose in life counseling.

2.? Life coach can give full play to my advantages.

As a heavy psychology lover, I have always had a strong curiosity about people. Why does he/she say, think and do this? What is the reason behind every action? On these issues, I have always maintained the curiosity of a three-year-old child, so I began to teach myself positive psychology two years ago, which is the basis of life counseling (see my previous book for learning methods, and I became a happy person after meeting positive psychology).

Through the study of positive psychology, I know how important it is for me to give full play to my advantages to get happiness, and I also know that optimism can be obtained through study and hard work. The accumulation and reserve of this knowledge, like martial arts, can make me exert great strength in the process of teaching.

Another advantage of my life counseling is my research ability. Although I changed my career, the academic research ability I have cultivated for many years before has been fully reflected in the process of being a life mentor. I know how to systematically study related works, compare and refine the research essence of my peers and apply it to my own practice. I also know how to mobilize all resources to find answers when problems arise, and the importance of constant reflection and correction.

Nothing is happier than integrating your interests and advantages into your career.

3.? Life coach can make me better.

Yesterday, I summarized last month's consultation with a client. She asked me a question: "Do you think it is a burden when the parties have problems and confusion?" Does this make you feel tired? "My answer is:" Every time I sort out a problem with you, it is actually a process of self-combing. What you have gained in the process of thinking is also a great inspiration to me. Therefore, every consultation is not an energy-consuming process, but a process of charging myself. "

Life coaching is a lifelong learning process. An excellent life coach should be a person with high moral character, solid foundation and positive self-discipline, so I will spend a lot of time studying and self-improvement. While being a life coach, I am also studying books on positive psychology, reading time management, energy management, sleep management, intimate relationship and so on. I insist on running every day, practicing meditation and mindfulness to keep my body and mind healthy and peaceful. At the same time, I will also use the coach's tools to coach myself, organize myself when I am confused, and keep my initial heart.

In addition, an additional benefit is that when I straighten myself out and grow up, my family will become happier, my relationship with my husband will be more harmonious, and I will no longer be anxious about my children. Although I will still encounter many problems, I can clearly realize that I can keep growing by treating every problem as an opportunity.

Back to the original question, why should I give up my professional field for more than ten years and start an unknown new journey? I think it should be the inner call. At first, it may only be a very weak light, but if you walk towards it, you will gradually find it.

Therefore, my answer to my previous friend's question is: "Life coaching is something I can't wait to do as soon as I open my eyes every morning."
