Beauty and Health in Beauty Economics

Other aspects of beauty can also imply a person's health. Especially the condition of skin and hair, is extremely sensitive to health and nutrition (or people are particularly good at finding defects or perfection in this respect). Recent research shows another connection between beauty and people. Although people are used to words like embroidered pillows and stupid blondes, research shows that beautiful people seem to be smarter.

Mark proulx, Ronald Yao and Geoffrey Miller of the University of New Mexico have done the most detailed research on the relationship between beauty and wisdom so far. Three researchers compared people's body symmetry with their IQ test scores. Miller and his colleagues found that IQ test results are closely related to body symmetry.

It seems that faces also carry intellectual information. A few years ago, two world face experts, Leslie Zebrowitz of brandeis University and Gillian Lodders of the University of Western Australia, reviewed past research papers and made some new experiments. They found nine related historical studies (seven of which were completed before the Second World War, which shows that people have been interested in this field for a long time), and then comprehensively analyzed the results of these studies.

Almost all of these studies adopt a similar method: first take photos of people, then give them IQ tests, and then show them to another group of people, so that they can judge their intelligence according to the photos. The experimental results show that people can usually make correct judgments. Although the accuracy of 100% cannot be guaranteed, the gap is enough to attract attention. After that, the two researchers started their own experiments, but unlike before, they divided the volunteers into groups by age.

The final result is quite surprising. They found that the faces of children and middle-aged people do seem to reveal intelligence, but teenagers and the elderly can't. This is really surprising, because in the courtship stage, this kind of information judgment should be very important, and adolescence is the best courtship period for human beings. Conversely, this is also a period when evolution tries its best to cover up all defects, and hormonal changes in adolescence may have just such an effect.
