At this time, it must be noted that it is most important for people with high cholesterol to quit smoking and limit alcohol, because smoking and alcoholism are also one of the inducing factors of hypercholesterolemia. Studies have shown that the serum total cholesterol level of smokers is significantly higher than that of non-smokers. Smoking reduces the level of serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (that is, "good" cholesterol). The more you smoke, the lower the level of good cholesterol.
