Physiological function of thymus

(1) Thymus is the place where T cells differentiate and mature.

In the late stage of thymus development, T cells further differentiate into T cell subsets with different functions, namely killer/inhibitory T cell subsets and helper/inducible T cell subsets. It is the main organ that induces the differentiation and maturation of T cells.

(2) Thymic hormone production

It plays an important role in T cell differentiation and regulation.

(3) forming tolerance to autoantigen-maintaining self-stability.

Thymus, as an immune organ, has three functions: immune defense, immune stability and immune monitoring. The immune organs in the human body protect human health through these three functions.
