What are the care and precautions for sterilized cats?

The sterilized cat is much weaker, so we need to do a comprehensive nursing work for the cat. The cat's personality may change after the operation. At this time, the owner should take care of the cat's feelings and prepare nutritious food for the cat in the diet, so that the cat can recover as soon as possible.

First, the cat after sterilization care

1, don't force the cat to live in the cat's nest.

When you get home, put the cat in the cat's nest. If it insists on getting into a corner and refuses to come out, don't force it, but don't let it do violent movements such as jumping to avoid the wound cracking. If it must jump, try to build some steps for it so that it can go where it wants to go. In fact, it's easier to keep a cat in a cage.

2. Correctly handle cat vomiting.

Many cats will vomit within three or four days after surgery. This is because anesthetics have a normal response to gastrointestinal irritation and do not need to go to the hospital. If the cat vomits and refuses to drink water, give it 0.9% sodium chloride (normal saline) or go to the drugstore to buy oral rehydration salt granules. It must be filled in compulsorily, at least 30ml per day, and can be fed with a plastic needle. Continuous vomiting will dehydrate the cat, and in severe cases, it will lead to its own acidosis and death. 30ml normal saline daily can also promote gastrointestinal peristalsis and prevent postoperative intestinal obstruction.

3. Feed the cat with painkillers

The night after the operation, the cat will feel severe pain. The cat keeps barking, which means it can't stand the pain. General painkillers are ineffective for postoperative pain. If you can't get an analgesic injection at home, go to the drugstore to buy tramadol, which is a postoperative analgesic. Give the cat half a tablet every six hours for two days in a row.

4. Don't force the cat to eat.

In general, if there are no other diseases, it doesn't matter if the cat doesn't eat for a few days. When its gastrointestinal function is weak, forced feeding can also cause vomiting. The cat itself has a strong regulatory ability. If it is in a better state, it will automatically eat.

Second, the precautions after cat sterilization

1, dog days and three or nine days are the hottest and coldest seasons, so it is best to avoid this season when performing birth control surgery on cats.

2. The cat is in good health and has no symptoms such as cold, vomiting and diarrhea. It was vaccinated with triple vaccine for cats within six months.

3. Before the operation, the cat needs to be fasting and drinking for 24 hours (the shortest time should not be shorter than 12 hours). Because anesthetics can make cats vomit, if there is food, it is easy to block the trachea and nasal cavity.

4, the cat's eyes are not closed after anesthesia, so before it wakes up, it should drop a few drops of chloramphenicol eye drops every 10 minutes to prevent corneal dryness.

5, after the operation, before the cat wakes up, it should be flat, and never nest in the neck to avoid suffocation. (especially on the way home with the cat, pay more attention)

6. The female cat needs stitches for birth control operation, so don't let it do strenuous exercise after operation to avoid pulling the wound. Generally, the wound will heal in about 7 days. At this time, you can take it to the hospital for stitches.

7. Male cats generally don't need stitches or bandages after birth control surgery, so they should pay strict attention after surgery to avoid infection.

8. When you bring the cat home, you'd better put it flat in the cat's nest, not on the bed or sofa, so as not to fall in a coma.

9. It is best for the owner to stay with the cat until the anesthetic power fails. Many cats urinate unconsciously, and if they are not found and cleaned in time, it is easy to dirty the wound.

10, 2-3 days after operation, if you find that the cat has symptoms such as wound secretion and elevated body temperature, you should go to the hospital in time. After the male cat is 9 months old, the female cat is eligible for sterilization when it is 4~9 months old. The sexual maturity time of different cats varies greatly. Generally speaking, purebred cats mature late and domestic cats mature early. However, it should be noted that cats should avoid sterilization when they are in estrus. Because the concentration of sex hormones in the blood is high at this time, the operation will cause excessive bleeding, and the hormones will leave estrus behaviors such as urinating and fighting in the memory of cats, which will affect the behavior after KC. You have to wait for a while, and then do the operation when the cat is out of heat for a while.

Many grumpy cats will be relatively docile after sterilization, which is very beneficial. It should be noted that cats may increase their diet after sterilization and are unwilling to move. Owners should mobilize the enthusiasm of cats to prevent them from getting fat.
