BodyMassIndex (BODY MASSINDEX) is a figure obtained by dividing the weight in kilograms by the square of the height in meters, and it is a commonly used international standard to measure the degree of obesity and health of human body. Mainly used for statistical purposes, when we need to compare and analyze the impact of a person's weight on the health of people of different heights, the body mass index value is a neutral and reliable indicator.
The concept of height and body mass index was first put forward by Belgian generalist kettler in the middle of19th century. Its definition is as follows: body mass index (BMI) = weight (kg)÷ height 2 (m).
For example, a person's height is 1.75m and his weight is 68kg, and his body mass index = 68/( 1.75 2) = 22.2 (kg/m 2). When the body mass index is 18.5 ~ 23.9, it is normal.
2. Chest circumference index
Because the measurements are an absolute statistical value, people can't simply judge a person's fatness according to the measurements, so we should introduce the "measurements index" to indicate whether the measurements fit.
The measurement index consists of three indicators, and its calculation method is as follows:
BustIndex)= (bust/height) ×100;
Waist circumference index) = (waist circumference/height) ×100;
Hippindex) = (hip circumference/height) × 100.
According to the national characteristics of our country, the standard of measurements is generally chest circumference of 84cm, waist circumference of 6 1cm and hip circumference of 90cm.
Extended data
Although the body mass index is not a complete method to measure a person's health status, a simple health assessment can be made by calculating the past body mass index value and personal health status. The normal value is between 18.5 _ body mass index < 24. These people have normal weight, and those who exceed it are abnormal weight. The United States has investigated the health status of 400,000 Americans. The researchers found that for middle-aged and elderly people, the body mass index is 26. Although they are overweight, the people surveyed have the lowest mortality rate. Generally speaking, between the ages of 22 and 25, people with high or low body mass index live longer and are more likely to get sick than those with body mass index.
Body mass index-GT30 is usually considered obese, and these people have an 85% chance of developing fatty liver. Nonalcoholic fatty liver is mostly related to nutrition, obesity, diabetes and hyperlipidemia. Even people with a body mass index between 25 and 30 have a 50% chance of developing fatty liver.
Because the body mass index does not take into account a person's fat ratio, a person with an overweight body mass index may not actually be obese. For example, because a large part of body weight is muscle, these people's body mass index will exceed 30. If their fat ratio is low, they are not obese.
