Is genetically modified harmful to human body?

not have

The 83-page assessment report on the impact of genetically modified crops on human health issued by the three academies of science is based on the review of reports, scientific papers, foreign reports and public opinions of government agencies and NGOs.

"The transgenic plants investigated in this report are mainly crops and foods related to Bt (insect-resistant) gene and CP4-ESPSP (herbicide-resistant glyphosate) gene. The effects of genetically modified foods on various acute and chronic diseases, such as cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, autism, food allergens, celiac disease, obesity, kidney disease and other common diseases, are evaluated, and research methods are provided. The conclusion is that there is no evidence that genetically modified foods are unsafe for human health. " Wang Dayuan said.

Difference between genetically modified food and ordinary food

Genetically modified food is the use of modern molecular biotechnology to transfer the genes of some organisms to other species, transform the genetic material of organisms, and make them change to the desired goals in terms of morphology, nutritional quality and consumption quality. Foods made from genetically modified organisms as direct food or raw materials are "genetically modified foods".

In the late 1980s, scientists began to apply the molecular research results of 10 years to genetically modified foods, and successfully cultivated weed-resistant soybeans in 1995 and sold them in the market. After seven years' efforts, they have produced transgenic corn, soybean, rape, potato, zucchini, etc. resistant to pests, viruses and weeds in batches by using genetic technology. At present, the main producing areas of genetically modified foods are the United States, Canada, the European Union, South Africa and Argentina.

Conventional cross breeding is to transfer the whole gene chain (chromosome), and transgene is the most useful short gene transfer. Therefore, transgene has higher selectivity than hybridization.
