It's almost fifty years since I left the army. The military camp has become my lifelong concern.

Jinniuba and Deng Jia Garden are the places where I lived and fought in the army. She spent the most unforgettable six years in the army with me.

Outside the west gate of Chengdu, past the tea shop, two or three miles ahead is Jinniu Dam.

Jinniuba is located in the middle of western Sichuan plain, which belongs to Pingchuan, with criss-crossing buildings, magnificent scenery and outstanding people. Zhang Zeng, the leader of the peasant uprising in the late Ming Dynasty, was stationed here. People say that the tree where Zhang tied the horse is still there. Mr. Zhang Daqian, a painter, also lived here for many years. Last century, Mr Daqian's former residence was rebuilt here. After liberation, Sichuan Province built a state guesthouse in Jinniuba, which is famous at home and abroad. 1958, Chairman Mao held the famous Chengdu Conference here. Chairman Mao visited the local countryside during the meeting. A beautiful folk song "Chairman Mao came to our farm" spread all over China from here.

Deng Jia Garden is not far from Jinniuba State Guesthouse, living alone in the depths of thousands of hectares of farmland, and it is a very quiet garden courtyard. Why is it called Deng Jia Garden? I haven't done any special research, but what I heard most was the private gardens built by Deng Xihou, a great warlord in Sichuan before liberation. After liberation, Deng Jia Garden was brought into the management of the military camp.

Dengjiayuan covers an area of 50-60 mu, and a small river flows through the fence. There are three China gardens, two pavilions, a fish pond bridge and a tall water tower in the garden. The garden is full of famous trees such as camphor tree, nanmu and ginkgo magnolia, and the flowers and plants in the garden are shining. This is a good place to stay at home and relax. In the early 1970s, our company entered Deng Garden. Dengjia Garden has changed from a quiet leisure garden to a lively and fiery military camp.

At that time, our country was in turmoil, the Cultural Revolution was going on in depth, the external pressure was very severe, China and the Soviet Union were hostile, and war broke out on Treasure Island. The Soviet Union has millions of troops on the Sino-Soviet border. Chairman Mao issued an order to prepare for a big battle. For a time, it was really stormy and dark clouds overwhelmed the city.

The company conducted large-scale military training, bombing, assassination and shooting, swimming, mountain climbing and skydiving. Capture and fight, camp and train, and prepare for battle. Training is very hard. Cadres and soldiers carry forward the spirit of not being afraid of suffering and death, and their morale is high. In the barracks, slogans and shouts ShaSheng shook the earth and resounded through Changhong.

Life in the army is tense, but it is also meaningful. Sleep in the shop and eat in the same pot. Crawling around during the day and standing guard at night. Work every two hours. It was my turn to stand guard when I was sleeping soundly in the middle of the night. Very sad. In the dead of night, standing on the sentry post and looking up at the starry sky, I often miss my hometown and my loved ones.

What is unforgettable is the emergency assembly. Just fell asleep, and the rapid sound of the horn woke you up from your dream. Every soldier immediately got up like an electric shock, dressed quickly, took up his backpack in the dark on the narrow bunk, got out of bed quickly, put on his backpack, grabbed his gun and ran to the playground. For fear of falling behind. Of course, there are also people who make a fool of themselves, wear clothes backwards, put buttons wrong and wear socks. It's interesting to look back now.

The troops are combat teams, propaganda teams and production teams. Self-sufficiency is a fine tradition of our army. We are also engaged in productive labor in Deng Jia Garden. The company transformed the garden into a vegetable garden. In those years, the camp was full of fruits and vegetables all year round, growing vigorously, and Hua Hudie was dancing all over the park, which was very gratifying. Inside the back fence, there is a row of pig houses, which slaughter more than ten fat pigs every year. On holidays, the company will slaughter one or two fat pigs to improve the food.

It was fashionable and glorious to join the army in those years. A large number of young people enthusiastically joined the army. We joined the army in the same year, not only rural youth, but also many educated youths. There are also acrobats, violinists and singers from Beijing Opera and Sichuan Opera. There are also workers, teachers, athletes and train drivers. There are many princelings' children. Some have been working in the local area for several years. I joined the army as a teacher with four years' teaching experience. With the participation of different personnel, the army is full of vitality and life is more colorful. All soldiers in the army are equal and treated equally. Everyone can be a cook and a breeder. I have a fellow villager who joined the army from the factory and got married before joining the army. That year, the company arranged for him to be a breeder. Because of his face, he didn't write to tell his family. One day, his wife suddenly came to the company to visit relatives. He was ashamed and made some jokes. Has become a joke for a group of us.

In that special era, we had to perform other tasks besides military training. We used to be on duty in the garrison. It is very hard and sometimes thrilling to quell factional struggles, collect illegal guns and ammunition, deal with public emergencies and maintain railway operation order.

Lin Biao defected on September 197 1 year 13. At that time, we were doing climbing training in Emei Mountain. After receiving the order, we rushed back to the barracks and entered the state of combat readiness. After a while, the Party Committee of Chengdu Military Region held a meeting of cadres above the divisional level in Jinniuba Hotel to convey the central document, and Lin Biao's defection was officially exposed. Carry out the work of eliminating key members of anti-party groups in Lin Biao. Our company is responsible for the security of the conference, and then works as a guard for the task force. We have been on duty in Jinniu Hotel for more than half a year.

Time is like water, fleeting. The fragrance and stories left by time are gone. The dusty past, like a cloud, drifted away gently in yesterday's memory.

Looking back on those eventful years, I can't forget the ups and downs in my heart for half a century. For decades, anyone who has been to Chengdu has to go back to Jinniuba and Deng Jia Garden every time. Enjoy it.
