Since the concept of "emotional intelligence" came into being in 1990s, people have paid more and more attention to the importance of emotional intelligence to human growth and success. On the basis of previous studies, this study compiled a questionnaire on emotional intelligence of middle school students, and used the self-made questionnaire to discuss the differences of emotional intelligence of middle school students in various background variables. In addition, this study also discusses the relationship between emotional intelligence and mental health of middle school students. Through analysis and discussion, the main conclusions of this study are as follows:
(1) The emotional intelligence of middle school students is a second-order structure with eight factors, which are: the ability to experience emotions, the ability to identify emotions, the ability to adjust emotions, and the ability to express emotions; Ability to observe others' emotions, identify others' emotions, adjust others' emotions and express others' emotions. These eight factors can be classified into two second-order dimensions: the first four factors are classified as "self-dimension" (the ability to deal with self-emotion) and the last four factors are classified as "others' dimension" (the ability to deal with others' emotion).
(2) There are gender differences in emotional intelligence of middle school students, and the emotional intelligence of girls is significantly better than that of boys.
(3) There are grade differences in emotional intelligence of middle school students, and the emotional intelligence of junior high school students is significantly better than that of senior high school students.
(4) There are differences in emotional intelligence among middle school students from different places of origin, which mainly come from urban students and rural students, as well as urban students and rural students.
(5) There are differences in emotional intelligence between only-child and non-only middle school students. ......
