As a child born and raised in the countryside, I have witnessed three major changes in the northern countryside.
The first change, solving the problem of food and clothing, the family purchased a TV setAs a post-70s child, my childhood life was still relatively poor. I went to elementary school at the age of six, from first to third grade in my own village, and after the fourth grade, I had to walk four miles to the central elementary school.
The village had dirt roads in those days, and every time it rained, my feet and those of my young friends would be covered with mud.
In '85, our family had 56 long-haired rabbits and six small gray rabbits. All summer long, I was tasked with pulling vegetables for the rabbits.
The family grew a lot of cotton in those days, and from spring to fall, my dad and mom were busy in the fields, and my brother and I would help on weekends.
Mom always said, "Work more, and we'll buy you a TV in the fall. My brother and I cheered and worked even harder, pitchforking the cotton and catching bugs.
In the fall of '85, my dad asked my sister-in-law to buy a TV for less than $500. In the minds of my brother and me, that was astronomical. Watching Dad counting a 10 yuan RMB, we both were surprisingly a little heartbroken.
Because of Dad and Mom's hard work, in the fall, our family had a bumper crop of cotton and an unprecedentedly high yield of corn. The white rabbits were also very competitive, and their fur was white and bright.
My brother and I have been taught since we were young that we must be hardworking and that hard work pays off.
The second change, in the nineties, the village built a highway and got running water
Our small village, in '91, built a highway, which was the envy of the people in the nearby villages.
That year, every household was connected to running water. Although the water supply was timed, with a radio announcement at noon every day to remind each household to pick up the water. But it was already very convenient, no longer need to go to the well to fetch water, fast and safe.
The rapid development of the village is due to good leadership. We've been really lucky. As a small village on the outskirts, the biggest local factory was built in our village, which not only solved the employment problem of young people, but also brought more benefits to the villagers.
The third change, the new rural transformation, the whole village moved into the neighborhood
The biggest change is our small village, collectively from villagers to citizens.
After three years of construction, the whole village was demolished and moved into a modern neighborhood. The neighborhood is full of green grass, fragrant flowers and graceful trees.
This spring, the neighborhood property and unified in the open space planted alfalfa, very special.
Children can walk to school because the neighborhood and the school are separated by a road. The old people have no worries, in and out of the elevator, easy and convenient.
With the countryside changing again and again, I also from the ignorant teenager, into middle age.
