Technical differences between coronary CTA and coronary MRA
Coronary CTA not only provides information similar to that of interventional coronary angiography, but also detects non-obstructive plaques within the arterial wall, and can be used to assess non-calcified coronary plaques and the atherosclerotic load, and to identify vulnerable plaques.
However, the clinical value of coronary CTA needs to be further evaluated, and it is still controversial to use coronary CTA as a routine screening tool for patients without symptoms of coronary artery disease but with risk factors for coronary artery disease, because of the need for contrast injection and the presence of ionizing radiation.

Clinical application of coronary CTA and coronary MRA
The sensitivity of coronary CTA for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease in 918 studies from January 2000 to March 2015 was 97%, and the specificity was 87%, which is in high agreement with interventional angiography.
Therefore, coronary CTA is recommended for patients at high risk of coronary artery disease and with obvious symptoms.
