What does flexible electronics do

Flexible electronics is a technology in which electronic devices are mounted on flexible plastic substrates to form flexible electronic circuits.

Flexible electronics as of 2023 can make batteries that are very small and can be charged wirelessly and even degraded. Some can also absorb water vapor to generate electricity, which can be used to power tiny nanoelectronic devices. After graduation, flexible electronics students can find employment in display panel companies and companies in the IC/semiconductor industry, and the outlook is very good.

Northwestern Polytechnical University Institute of Flexible Electronics (Institute of Flexible Electronics, IFE) is a basic, comprehensive, cross-fertilization of cutting-edge research institutions with the famous scholars in the field of organic and flexible electronics, academician Huang Wei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as the subject leader.

The Institute focuses on flexible electronics (including organic electronics, plastic electronics, printed electronics, nano-electronics, bio-electronics, etc.), a highly cross-fertilized and disruptive form of the discipline, and focuses on key scientific issues and technical difficulties in flexible optoelectronic materials, semiconductor properties, physical mechanisms of devices, device processes and integration, and is oriented to the new generation of information display, storage computing, data encryption, bio-sensing, healthcare and integration.

Relying on Xi'an, Shaanxi Province and Taicang, Jiangsu Province, the institute will cooperate with world-class universities and research institutes to gather an international high-end scientific research team engaged in the research of basic theories and applied technologies in the field of flexible electronics-related disciplines, so as to build a world-class national base of research and development of flexible electronics, talent training and industrial incubation.

On August 9, 2017, the Xi'an Municipal Government issued the "Comprehensive Supporting Services Program for Academician Huang Wei of Northwestern Polytechnical University", and on August 19, it signed the "Agreement on the Introduction of High-end Talents (Teams)" with the team led by Academician Huang Wei, and approved to build the "Xi'an Flexible Electronics Research Institute", and in accordance with the Xi'an "talent introduction 23" policy to provide support.

The Institute will cooperate with world-class universities and research institutes to gather an international high-end scientific research team engaged in basic theory and applied technology research in the field of flexible electronics-related disciplines, and to build a world-class national base for research and development of flexible electronics, talent training, and industrial incubation.
