Based on the novel of the same name by Zhou Zhou. Norman Bethune, a great internationalist warrior, member of the Canadian Labor Progressive Party and a famous surgeon. Returning to America from the front line in Madrid, Spain, during the Second World War, Paik was traveling to Canada and the United States to give speeches.
With the support of the International Committee for China Aid (ICA), he immediately formed a medical team and decided to come to China to support the Chinese people in their war against Japan.
He traveled across the ocean and broke through many obstacles to reach Yan'an at the beginning of 1938, and entered the Jinchaji anti-Japanese base in June of the same year. Here, Bai was appointed as the medical adviser of the military region, and was warmly welcomed by the base area cadres, soldiers and the people.
Just after settling down, Bai Kouen began his intense work, inspecting the hospitals belonging to the military region in a very short time. He found that the situation here was worse than imagined, with no regular hospitals, no regular operating rooms, a lack of skilled surgeons and a lack of essential medical equipment. In order to solve these difficulties, Bai Qiun first asked the commander of the military region to run a model rear hospital and transfer the best doctors from each sub-district to be trained. Then he wrote to his friends in Canada to send some medical equipment. In the training class, Bai Qiu'en wrote his own lectures and taught the trainees surgical techniques. Although the trainees had a low level of education, they were very hardworking, thus increasing Bai Qun's confidence. After the training, the technical level of the doctors in the hospitals of the military sub-districts improved significantly. Bai Qun also disregard personal safety personally to the front line for the wounded to do surgery.
Once, the 359th Brigade fought a relatively large ambush in Lingqiu, Shanxi Province. Bai Qiu'en led a medical team to the front line, in a broken temple, Bai Qiu'en set up an operating room, for the wounded to do surgery. When Captain Xu was seriously wounded and lost a lot of blood, Bai Qun drew his own blood to give him a blood transfusion, which saved his life. Seeing that the artillery fire was closing in on the broken temple, some shells fell near the temple. Bai Qun still insisted on finishing the last operation before withdrawing.
Bai Qiu'en saw many miracles happen here, many things that the outside world did not understand. He wanted to tell people all over the world about the Chinese people's struggle against Japan.
He decided to make a trip back to Canada. The military district held a farewell party, and Secretary Tong and Dr. Fang escorted Bai Qiu'en to the edge of the creek. Suddenly the sound of an emergency rallying cry came from the distance, Bai Kouen stopped and decided not to go for the time being, feeling that he was more needed here. Bai Qun went back to the front and moved around, finally taking part in the famous Huangtuling Battle.
In the temporary operating room at the front, Bai was doing an operation when the enemy suddenly made a fierce attack, and Dr. Fang advised Bai to evacuate quickly, but Bai said it was an abdominal operation and must not be delayed or his life would be in danger. He insisted on finishing the operation, but his fingers were cut during the operation. Later, when he returned to the hospital, Bai Qunun insisted on doing two more surgeries, but his glove broke and his hand was infected, and he unfortunately suffered from blood poisoning. Due to the lack of medicine in the base area, Bai Kouen was rescued, unfortunately died.
