Saxony-Anhalt
Health is very unevenly distributed in Germany. When all causes of death were investigated in 2010, this sad statistic topped the list. It's Saxony-Anhalt. The main reason for the high mortality rate is the aging population of the German states. Most young people left for West Germany after the reunification, while older people remained in East Germany. In Saxony-Anhalt***, 609 people died from heart disease, which was more than any other state based on its population. And the death toll from cancer is equally horrific: Cancer is the second leading killer after heart disease. The risk of dying from cancer remains highest in Saxony-Anhalt. In 2010, 354 out of every 100,000 people died from cancer.
