The laboratory is equipped with advanced instruments and equipments, including Modis satellite data receiving system, virtual reality system, graphic workstations and related software systems of SGI, SUN, HP and other kinds of Unix, many Sun and Dell servers, as well as high-grade input/output equipments and nearly 200 high-grade microcomputers. Based on surveying and mapping information science, the laboratory comprehensively researches the basic theory, key technology, application mode and integration method of remote sensing, spatial information system and spatial positioning. Nowadays, the main research directions are: remote sensing image information processing, spatial information system, spatial positioning theory and technology, spatial information and multimedia communication technology, and 3S integration technology. Focusing on the above directions, the laboratory has hosted and undertaken 235 scientific research projects, including 10 863 Program projects, 6 973 Program projects, 30 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects, 18 National Defense Program projects, 8 international cooperation projects, and 163 open funds, provincial and municipal projects, and horizontal cooperation projects; and among the scientific and technological achievements accomplished, it has been awarded with 4 second-class prizes at national level, 6 first-class prizes at ministry (provincial) level, 7 second-class prizes, and 1 first-class prize at provincial level. Among the scientific and technological achievements accomplished, 4 second-class awards at national level, 6 first-class awards and 7 second-class awards at ministry (province) level have been granted.
