TMT is a combination of the initial letters of Telecommunication, Media, and Technology (TMT), a new industry that links high-tech companies with telecommunications and other industries based on media such as the Internet, and is characterized by information exchange and information fusion. From the perspective of the global TMT industry, the top three are the U.S. Apple, South Korea's Samsung and the U.S. e-commerce platform Amazon. Apple topped the list of global TMT companies with $229.2 billion in earnings, and was also the most profitable company in the Global 500.
The TMT companies that made it into the Global 500 were 25 from the US, 18 from China, nine from Japan and four from both South Korea and Germany.
In terms of China's TMT companies entering the Global 500, Hon Hai (24), China Mobile (53), Huawei (72), China Telecom (141), Jingdong (181), Lenovo (240), Unicom (273), PEGATRON (285), Alibaba (300), Midea (323), and Tencent (331) are among the top 18 companies that have entered the Global 500 for the TMT industry. Compared with 2017, which ranked the biggest rise is Alibaba, up 162 from 462 to 300; followed by Tencent from 478 to 331, up 147; Midea Group listed 127, Jingdong up 80 places, Huawei and 2008 from Taiwan's Asustek Group separated from the " Huawei and PEGATRON, which was spun off from Taiwan's ASUS Group in 2008, both rose 11 spots.
The other TMT companies that made it into the Global 500 were Quanta Computer Inc (354), TSMC (368), China Electronics Corporation (369), China Electronics Technology Group Corp (388), Compal Computer (404), Suning.com (427), Wistron (432) and Qingdao Haier (499).
It's worth noting that the overall list of the Fortune 500 measures operating revenues, and its rankings do not represent profitability levels. In terms of the most profitable companies in China's TMT industry, it appears that TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd.) is at the top of the list, with a profit of $11.3 billion, followed closely by Tencent, with a profit of $10.58 billion.
