What does Bluetooth GPS mean and what does it do?

The city is getting bigger and bigger, and there are more and more roads. Shuttling between different cities, complicated roads or traffic conditions are often a headache. At the same time, more and more GPS products appear in front of people. Inadvertently, this "high-tech" product, which was tall and even mysterious a few years ago, has now put on a popular coat and become a necessary helper for many people to travel. Recently, we got Nokia's latest Bluetooth wireless GPS module LD-3W, which is powerful and claims to surpass all current navigation modules. Finally, please look at the in-depth inspection report brought by the appraiser.

From the module named LD-3W, we know that it is an upgraded version of Nokia's previous product LD-1W. Indeed, if the appearance of LD-3W has not changed much compared with the previous products, the color of the border has changed from silver white of LD- 1W to black gray, giving people a more commercial feeling. In addition, the charging socket has become a small AC charging port. Although it is only a small change, it will undoubtedly be much more convenient for the car owner to charge directly with the car charger.

The measurement of LD-3W is only 78.4×45.4× 16.5mm, which looks like a delicate small box. Moreover, it is only 65 grams after the battery is installed, which is small and light, and it is very convenient to carry. The fuselage is made of high-strength plastic. After polishing, it feels very comfortable and is not easy to get fingerprints and grease. It is worth mentioning that, although LD-3W is petite and simple in appearance, engineers still design the simple panel to be concave and convex with distinct layers. In the middle of the front panel is a classic fingerprint-like pattern, and the Nokia logo is raised in the middle, which is very three-dimensional. The details fully show the style of Nokia manufacturers.

Nokia LD-3W's body buttons are also very simple. The upper right of the fuselage is the on/off button, and the bottom of the fuselage is the charging port. Although there is only one car charger on the product package, the battery back cover of LD-3W can be opened and the battery can be taken out, so it is very convenient to charge the battery with the seat charger of Nokia mobile phone. In terms of battery life, the LD-3W still uses Nokia BL-5C lithium battery, which can provide continuous service time of more than 15 hours, and can stand by for more than a week without power failure. This kind of battery life should satisfy users. There are three indicator lights above the front of LD-3W, which represent GPS, power supply and Bluetooth status from left to right.

Compared with its predecessor LD- 1W, LD-3W has a revolutionary upgrade. First of all, from the chip point of view, LD- 1W uses SirfStar II chip, while LD-3W not only uses the latest SirfStarIII GPS chip, but also has a built-in logic chip for stabilizing GPS signals, which solves the most troublesome drift problem of SIRF GPS chip in one fell swoop. LD-3W supports 20 satellite channels, NMEA 0 183 3.0 1 protocol and WGS84 coordinate format. The software can clearly receive NMEA satellite signals transmitted by GPS. We see that the external antenna interface originally in LD- 1W has disappeared in LD-3W due to full trust in the positioning ability of LD-3W. In addition, LD-3W is more advanced in Bluetooth configuration. LD- 1W adopts the standard of V 1. 1 in Bluetooth. LD-3W has the latest version of 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) Bluetooth chip, which not only greatly improves the transmission rate and reduces the power consumption, but also helps to improve the positioning accuracy from the previous 10-20m.

After introducing the appearance and configuration of LD-3W, we will really feel its strength in practical application. The module is recommended to connect with Nokia's S60 mobile phone, but it should also be able to connect with computers, PDA and other brands of mobile phones wirelessly because it supports the standard NMEA data format. The evaluator chooses to pair with the PPC PDA HP 1940. After turning on the power switch, HP 1940 searched LD-3W in a very short time, and entered the security key to complete the pairing. It should be noted that the default password of LD-3W is 0000. After a pairing, when the GPS is connected again with the same device, the system will automatically connect, which is quite convenient.

In order to test the satellite positioning ability of LD-3W, the evaluator installed gps viewer and mapking software on HP 1940 for evaluation. The former is a software that can test and restore gps positioning ability, and can completely restore GPS settings without using GPS function for a long time, so GPS viewer is a necessary software for PPC with GPS. On the other hand, Mapking belongs to navigation software, just like CityLink and Turing.

The first test was conducted indoors. Because the appraiser's room has poor signal reception ability, it can't even accept GPS signals in the previous test, so it is the first test for LD-3W with SirfStarIII GPS chip installed.

I have a habit of running the gps viewer before running the general navigation software, so as to fully activate the GPS function. After waiting for about 10 seconds, the satellite map finally appeared on the gps viewer interface, but the waiting time for altitude display exceeded 3 minutes. After a small-scale test, although LD-3W was finally located successfully, it seems that the advantages of SirfStarIII chip have not been fully exerted.

The reviewers are not discouraged. This time they are running mapking navigation software. Perhaps the previous operation of the gps viewer played a preheating role, and LD-3W performed very well this time. Within a few seconds, eight satellites were clearly displayed on the screen. It's not easy to know that this is indoor. Because as long as there are four good satellite signals, you can accurately locate the latitude, longitude and altitude, so the altitude display is also very fast, because it is static, and the speed display is 0, which is also very accurate. Because I was going to have a party with my friends in Wangfujing Building the next day, I tried to simulate it, but I couldn't find Wangfujing on mapking, so I was depressed and had to enter Zhongshan Road 1. Judging from the analog circuit, it is indeed the same route as people usually take. Of course, the specific effect still depends on the results of tomorrow's "road test".

The next day, as the author had no mount, he had to take a taxi to his destination. What's hateful is that the taxi driver didn't cooperate, running all the way, and the photos taken were rather blurred. I hope everyone understands. The receiving ability of LD-3W outdoors is obviously stronger than indoors, and it can basically guarantee to receive ten satellite signals. As can be seen from the figure, LD-3W can still be stably positioned even when driving on viaducts or underground passages, and the drift phenomenon criticized by people on GPS has hardly appeared before. This excellent performance is inseparable from the support of LD-3W for SBAS(EGNOS/WAAS) auxiliary calibration function.

LD-3W is also excellent in positioning accuracy, which can be illustrated in the following two pictures. The first picture was taken when the car was preparing to drive to the right Guangzhou Bridge above the Kecun Interchange. Although the picture is blurred, it can still be seen on the navigation map that the car is turning right, which is consistent with the actual driving route. The second photo is more obvious. In reality, the car is waiting for the green light under the overpass, ready to drive in the direction of Zhongshan Road on the left. From the map, you can clearly see that the car turns left at the intersection, which is very accurate and trustworthy.
