Hunan Higher Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a full-time public general higher institute of technology approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and managed by Hunan Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission and Hunan Provincial Department of Education. The predecessor of the school is Zhuzhou Health School, which was founded in 1959, and was reconstructed as Zhuzhou School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1987, renamed as Hunan School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1989, and was promoted to the provincial-level key specialized school in 1998, and set up Hunan Higher Colleges of Traditional Chinese Medicine on the basis of the former Hunan School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2004, which was approved by the People's Government of Hunan Province and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
