"People-oriented, a promise is a promise" is the service concept of Taiping Insurance when it resumed business in China. "Mechanism to attract talent, system to utilize talent, environment to retain talent, training to educate talent" is the first corporate culture enlightenment class I took before joining Taiping Insurance, and it is also the reason why I wanted to join Taiping Insurance after I saw the recruitment advertisement published in the China Insurance News in 2001.
One
There were very few job ads in the insurance industry at that time. Because after the resumption of domestic insurance business in the early 1980s, there were only two main players in the market, PICC and Xinjiang Corps Insurance Company. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, two more companies, China Pacific and Ping An Insurance, were added. However, due to the financial and insurance industry was not liberalized at that time, the industry staff income treatment and good, so even in 1996, PICC branch of the operation of a period of time, in the personnel into the Division is basically zero increase or negative growth, only exports, no imports. I remember in 1995, Ping An Insurance from the regional insurance company, turned into a national insurance company, had in the "China Insurance Newspaper" full-page job ads published twice, at that time in the industry was also a sensation.
Most of the key staff and managers of China Pacific and Ping An in their infancy came from PICC. I was working in the planning department of PICC's Gansu branch. My leader and colleagues, Kuang Jizu and Bi Hansong, also went to Ping An in Shanghai and Ping An in Shenzhen after seeing job advertisements.
Despite the fact that four new regional insurance companies, namely Xinhua, Taikang, Huaan and Yongan, were approved in 1996, the monopoly of PICC, China Life, Ping An and China Pacific in the insurance market after the separation of the insurance industry has not been affected on the whole. The entire Chinese insurance industry is still not active enough. However, the mobility of people in the industry is beginning to increase. In 1995, Ping An Insurance started to import talents from overseas, especially in the life insurance industry, and it was very fond of Taiwanese talents, and in 1999, it launched the "Dragon Plan" to import external talents. Since then, Ping An Insurance has embarked on a healthy path of rapid development in line with international standards, and in 2004, Ping An Insurance was successfully listed in Hong Kong, and one of the key points of its success is its internationalized and professional talent team and its management team that combines the best of Chinese and Western cultures. Therefore, the concept of "people-oriented" is right. The president of Coca-Cola once said: If there is a big fire and the plant and raw materials are destroyed, but as long as the talents are retained, Coca-Cola will still be able to develop rapidly.

Tai Ping Insurance and Taiping Life Insurance are subsidiaries of China Insurance Holdings Co. It entered the domestic insurance market under the new situation of China's accession to the WTO and further accelerated opening up. It was founded in Shanghai in 1929, operated overseas in 1956, and returned to its hometown in 2001, making it the insurance company with the most complete and longest history in China. Mr. Yang Chao, the original chairman of China Insurance Holding Company (retired, he was the chairman of China Life Insurance Company before his retirement). In view of the actual situation of China Insurance Holding Company and the domestic insurance market, it was decided that Taiping Insurance would resume business in China. At that time, the Asian financial turmoil swept through the Southeast Asian countries in 1998, and all the countries were y scarred. In the face of the severe economic situation at that time, China Insurance Holdings, through the first listed insurance company in China, CIB International, was listed in Hong Kong to raise funds, and returned to the country under the kind care of the state and central leadership, and began to cultivate the domestic insurance market. After nearly 10 years of hard work, Taiping Insurance, Taiping Life Insurance, Taiping Pension Insurance and Taiping Asset Management have all achieved remarkable results. Taiping Life Insurance has opened up a new market through the bancassurance channel. In December 2013, the premium scale of Taiping Insurance exceeded 10 billion yuan. It can be said that the results are not bad.
Three
In March 2002, I formally cast my resume.
Three months after my resume was submitted, in June 2002, I received a phone call from Shenzhen Taiping Insurance. The person on the other end was very polite and asked me if I had time to come to Shenzhen for an interview. At the end of June, the head office of PICC organized us to go to Hong Kong to participate in training, so I agreed to take this opportunity to go to Taiping Insurance. one night in July, we passed through the station in Shenzhen, in the evening breeze of the Shennan Avenue, I saw the neon lights of Taiping Insurance flashing. I saw the neon lights flashing, and a warm feeling suddenly rose in my heart.
The training time in Hong Kong was short but rich. It was China Insurance Holdings Corporation (CIHC) that hosted and organized our training. China Insurance Holdings Corporation (CIHC) was spun off from the People's Insurance Company of China (PIC) in 1996 after the separation of the domestic insurance industry. Therefore, after meeting with the comrades of the training department of China Insurance Holding Company, both sides were very cordial. During the training period, we visited China Insurance Holdings Corporation and had a discussion with the middle and senior management of its other subsidiary, Hong Kong Citizens Insurance Company. I was attracted by the good working environment, the hectic and orderly work, and the relaxed and harmonious language communication. The results of the exchange gave me a deeper understanding of China Insurance Holdings Corporation and further strengthened my determination to join PIL.
After returning to Shenzhen from Hong Kong, I contacted the Human Resources Department of Taiping Insurance, and under their arrangement, I went to the 17th floor of Jiangsu Building, the headquarter of Taiping Insurance Company Limited, which is located in Yitian Road, Futian District. At that time, the area around Jiangsu Building was not busy, but after all these years of construction, it has become very modern by now. The Shenzhen CBD, the city government, the concert hall, the library and the Shenzhen Book City are all located here.
At that time, I was interviewed by Chen Yongxin, Assistant General Manager of the General Manager's Office in charge of the Human Resources Department (who passed away due to illness), Luo Haiping, General Manager of the then Marketing Department (planner of the First Forum on the Development and Reform of the Insurance Industry in China and the Symposium on the Functionality of Modern Insurance, and now Deputy General Manager of China United Property and Casualty Insurance Holding Co. (Deputy General Manager of Taiping Insurance Hebei Branch) and staff member Wang Ke. After asking a few questions, I was given 5 minutes to prepare a 10-minute presentation on the current state of development and future trends of China's insurance market. I finished the presentation in the scheduled time, and perhaps the content of the presentation also impressed the people present, so the interview still went well. After that, I met with Assistant General Manager Mr. Chen Jinkui and Assistant General Manager Mr. Jiang Zhongming. Assistant General Manager Jiang Zhongming used to work in Hong Kong. His Putonghua was not very standard, but he was very humorous. He asked me a few questions about the business and insurance law very carefully. I was interviewed by Assistant General Manager Mr. Qi Zhiqiang, who signed the approval at the last stage. After joining Taiping Insurance, I also discussed with Mr. Qi Zhiqiang about the first reform of Taiping's auto insurance system. The Human Resources Department had also arranged for the then General Manager, Mr. Jiang Yidao, to interview me, but Mr. Jiang was in Hong Kong at the time, and after listening to the Human Resources Department's introduction, he agreed to my joining PIL. Through attending this interview, I was very impressed by the seriousness and pragmatism of Taiping Insurance, and its conscientious and responsible attitude towards the interviewers.
In the summer of 2004, at a party, when the then Deputy General Manager of the Human Resources Department, Mr. Sun Fengshou, introduced me to Assistant General Manager, Mr. Li Xiaoming, of the General Manager's Office at the time, he said that I was the one who had the most rigorous interviews at the time when I entered Taiping Insurance.
Pacific Insurance attaches great importance to staff training and education. Thanks to the support of China Insurance Holdings Corporation (CIHC), since 2004, under the auspices of Assistant General Manager Li Xiaoming of the General Manager's Office and then General Manager Chen Xiaoyan of the Human Resources Department, the Human Resources Department of Taiping Insurance has organized a group of outstanding domestic personnel to study in CIHC's overseas institutions, which has played a positive role in the healthy development of Taiping Insurance's domestic business and has put into practice the principle of "training for talent". This has played a positive role in the healthy development of Taiping Insurance's domestic business and has put into practice the people-oriented concept of "training and nurturing talents".
Early in 2005, a senior executive who applied for a job at Taiping Insurance pointed to the culture wall on the 17th floor of the company and said to me: "Do you know what attracts me to your company? It's the 'sharing' in the business philosophy of 'integrity, dedication, harmony and sharing', and it touches me inexplicably." In 2007, Luo Haiping, then deputy general manager of the General Manager's Office, when discussing the "Development Strategic Plan of Taiping Insurance Company Limited for 2006-2010", said that the business philosophy of "management with heart and service with integrity" had penetrated into the marrow of the staff of the grassroots company, which showed the power of the company's corporate culture. The company's corporate culture is a powerful force.
Four
Of course, Taiping Insurance's corporate culture has also evolved with the times, constantly changing and enriching. For example, at the time of the resumption of the business put forward by the "large profits, small profits, small work, no profit, no work" business philosophy with the development of the times gradually no longer advocate.
"Realize yourself, enjoy life, **** with the development, and give back to the society." This is one of the first business concepts advocated by Taiping Insurance when it resumed operations. Whenever you log on to the company's old OA, this is the phrase that jumps out at you. Although this philosophy is no longer advocated, it has had such an impact on me that I still can't forget it.
It is said that this business philosophy has been criticized, most notably for "enjoying life". Instead of encouraging the company's employees to work hard and be positive, it was said that the company encouraged people to enjoy themselves. It's possible that different interpretations have led to different results!
But I have my own views on this business philosophy. My understanding of "self-realization, enjoyment of life, *** with the development, give back to society." My understanding is that the prerequisite for enjoying life is self-realization. The company understands each person's merits and strengths, and then builds a platform for employees to realize themselves, plan for the future of their lives, grow and develop with the company, and contribute to the society. The purpose of work is definitely to pursue a better life, and enjoying life is the motivation for people to work better.
I remember that during my work in the People's Insurance Company, I saw an economic program on the second channel of the Central Government, which was about the gradual popularity of placing tea, milk and coffee in the pantry among western enterprises. Usually people have less interaction with each other at work, but every day in the fixed break time, we can coincidentally go to the pantry, through this way to achieve mutual communication, enlightenment, and thus more conducive to work. So I combined with the actual work of the company at that time, in the form of rationalization proposals submitted to the original company, but met resistance. The biggest resistance was that some employees suggested that the comrades of the basic company were working hard to collect premiums, while the staff of the organization was drinking coffee and working, which was a bit greedy for enjoyment. Western corporate culture was sniped at in China. After working at Taiping Insurance, I was delighted to see that the company had a pantry. There were computers in the pantry where you could look up information on the Internet, newspapers you could read at your leisure, and notice boards with announcements of major events that would be taking place in the next two days, all of which gave me a fresh feeling. The original proposal is easily realized here. All of this reveals the vitality of the company.
I remember when the company first started to shoot a documentary reflecting the company's corporate culture. In the large conference room on the 17th floor, the photographer asked Jiang Lin of the water insurance department to hold a cup of drink and let me flip through a magazine, and then faced the blue sky of Shenzhen and the green Lotus Hill to take the head of the scene, which is still unforgettable when I think about it! I think that if a company operates in the realm of "only to drink the water of Changsha, and eat Wuchang fish, 10,000 miles across the Yangtze River, the extreme view of Chu Tianshu", the future prospects of the company is undoubtedly very brilliant. Of course, the reality of the brutal market competition does not allow companies to be so romantic, but I think a company should work toward such a goal.
In addition to this business philosophy, the company also has a catchy business philosophy of "heartfelt management, honest service" and a management philosophy of "honesty, efficiency, professionalism, and joint efforts". The six spirits advocated by Mr. Feng Xiaozeng, the then Chairman of China Insurance Holdings Corporation (CIHC), are y affecting the staff of CIHC. I think these concepts are so catchy, memorable and far-reaching that they naturally have their own charm. After more than 80 years of continuous creation, development and accumulation, Taiping Insurance has formed a relatively rich system of values, which is a great spiritual wealth created by successive generations of Taiping insurers***. 2008, according to the initiative of Comrade Shen Nanning, the then Chairman of Taiping Insurance, and under the auspices of Mr. Luo Haiping, the Deputy General Manager of Taiping Insurance, and Mr. Wang Wenhui, the then General Manager of the Strategic Management Department, after drawing on the opinions of various parties, drafted and issued the "Taiping Insurance Company Limited 2008", which is the most comprehensive and comprehensive set of values for Taiping Insurance.
TaiPing Insurance Company Limited 2008-2010 Corporate Culture Construction Outline, which is the first document on corporate culture construction issued since the resumption of operation in China, has played a positive role in promoting the construction of corporate culture of TaiPing Insurance Company Limited.
To this day, the cultural heritage that China Insurance and Taiping Insurance have built up over the past hundred years should have been an important factor in attracting me to join Taiping Insurance. Xu Wenhu, head of the insurance department at Fudan University in Shanghai, said at a seminar in 2002 that the core competitiveness of Chinese insurance companies would be in 10 years' time, saying two things: the technical content of the products and the insurance culture of the company. From the present point of view, this statement is true. For the above two points, I am also a supporter. Because of these years in Shenzhen Taiping Insurance work, I have a deep understanding of the above two points, especially the company's corporate culture. Because the product is homogeneous, and no culture conveys the same feeling.
