It is reported that the third generation of gene sequencers, will be the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Institute of Genomics and Wave "high-performance servers and storage technology State Key Laboratory" set up by the "Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Institute of Genomics - Wave Genome Science Joint Laboratory
Currently, the second-generation gene sequencers used by organizations engaged in genetic research in China rely entirely on imports, and the price of the equipment is high. More seriously, due to the uniqueness of genetic resources, foreign companies can take advantage of the first-mover advantage of gene sequencing equipment to apply for gene patents, thereby monopolizing the future of the global gene industry.
At present, the international competition for third-generation gene sequencers is very fierce, the United States claimed to launch a mature third-generation gene sequencers in 2012, Japan and Europe also have related research and development programs, China is facing a very urgent situation.
Yu Jun, deputy director of the Beijing Institute of Genome Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told reporters that China's proposed third-generation gene sequencer developed by itself and the existing second-generation sequencer in principle and performance are fundamentally different. The third-generation gene sequencer more use of chemistry, semiconductors, optics and other principles and technologies, through the operation of a single molecule and reduce the complexity of the biological response, combined with the efficient processing of massive data technology, the formation of inexpensive and rapid interpretation of the gene sequence. If the research and development is successful, it will drive the leapfrog development of life sciences in China.
