In Depth

A.

In 1993, the year after Deng Gong made his Southern Tour speech, the 43-year-old Kuo was accompanied by the Shenzhen authorities to Longhua Town, where he chose a new production base for his company.

Five years ago, Kuo founded the Shenzhen Ocean Precision Computer Connector Factory (the predecessor of Foxconn) in Shenzhen, becoming one of the first Taiwan-funded enterprises to enter the mainland.

Standing on a hill in Longhua Township, the accompanying official casually asked how many acres of land he intended to use as a factory? He pointed to a barren piece of land in front of him and said boldly, "I'll take all the land I can see!"

At this time, Foxconn was not as famous as it is today, and in many people's eyes, it was just an ordinary Taiwan-funded company that made computer parts.

The accompanying officials were startled, thinking that the tone of this Taiwanese businessman is a bit crazy, but Guo said with a smile: I'm afraid that the land is not enough for the development of Foxconn.

The newest addition to the Foxconn lineup is the Foxconn Fusion System, which is a new, more flexible, and more efficient way to deliver the Foxconn Fusion System to the public. The accompanying staff did not dare to be negligent, rushed to report the situation to the top, and was successfully approved.

Three years later, covering an area of more than 1,000 acres of Longhua Industrial Zone was officially established, which is today's Foxconn Industrial Park with more than 300,000 employees. It takes 30 minutes to cycle from the south gate of the factory to the north gate, which shows the size of the area.

This is the earliest factory that Kuo built in mainland China, and it is also the place where he has poured the most effort into after starting his business.

In the years that followed, Guo took Shenzhen as the center, and radiated the enterprise from the Pearl River Delta to the Yangtze River Delta, and from the coast to the inland and even overseas, relying on the big brands to do OEM work, and gradually built up a "OEM empire" of more than one million employees, with an output value of hundreds of billions of dollars, Foxconn.

Today, Foxconn each production line can produce an average of nearly 600 smartphones per hour, every seven iPhones in the world, there is a production from Foxconn.

After 47 years of business, Foxconn has transformed itself from an unimpressive "plastics processor" into the richest man in Taiwan, worth tens of billions of dollars, and the history of Foxconn in the last half-century has been quite fascinating.

Some people say that he is a cold and authoritarian "tyrannical president", others say that he is a visionary and courageous management master, and others say that he is a "playboy" who does not mean what he says.

Guo also spoke often contradictory, often boasted of Shanxi, moving to hold the "loyalty, filial piety, propriety and righteousness" to their own gold, but will also say "businessmen have no motherland, where there is a market which is the motherland!

Now, at the age of 71, Kuo has stepped down from his high horse.

Secondly,

On October 8, 1950, on Banqiao Road in New Taipei City, a Mazu temple called "CiHuiGong" was suddenly filled with the sound of a baby's cries, and the family of the snailed policeman, Guo Lingrui, gave birth to a baby boy.

Faced with a difficult life, Mr. Kuo named his son "Kuo Tai Ming" to show that he would not forget this bitter history.

Guo Lingrui is a native of Jincheng County, Shanxi Province, served as a soldier, and then graduated from the Central Police School, in 1948 with the defeat of the Kuomintang army evacuated to Taiwan, powerless, he could not afford to buy a house, and did not get a dormitory, and his wife had to live in the police station near the Mazu Temple.

In his childhood, Kuo and his younger siblings were often bullied by their peers because they were outsiders, but no matter how many people were on the other side and how badly they were beaten up, he would redden his eyes and take up his slippers and fight with the other side to the end.

At home, the military origin of Guo Lingrui to take paramilitary management, the children when to eat, when to sleep, there is a strict work and rest system, which allows Guo body in addition to a share of ruthlessness, and everything must follow the system of consciousness.

In 1966, at the age of 16, Kuo finished his studies at the "Maritime College" on a half-time basis because of his family's poverty, and then served in the military, and then went to the Renaissance Shipping Company to work as a salesman.

When he was 21 years old, he joined a pharmaceutical company in Taipei as a salesman, and because of his diligence, he soon won the heart of a girl named Lin Shuju, who was also an intern at the pharmaceutical company.

When he was a young man, he was tall, handsome, and sweet-talking, and Lin Shu-ju was as beautiful as a flower and as gentle as water, so the two soon fell in love.

Soon after the contact, Kuo was shocked to realize that not only was she a senior student at the Taipei Medical College, but she was also the daughter of Hong Kong tycoon Lin Baixin.

Such a disparity in family background, naturally, the Lin family is extremely opposed to, trying to do everything possible to prevent the two young people together, even Kuo's parents have come forward to say that they dare not climb this marriage.

But Lin Shuzhu decided that Guo is his "true destiny", no matter how hard the family persuasion, not the slightest concession, Guo more feel that to find Lin Shuzhu is God's favor, but also uncompromising.

In 1975, at the age of 25, Lin Shu-Ru defied his family's objections and finally got married with his son, ending a five-year love affair and stepping into the marriage.

When the grandson Guo Shouzheng and granddaughter Guo Xiaoling were born, Lin Baixin really did not go to see a glance, the daughter of that resentment can be imagined.

The first time I saw this, I was in the middle of a conversation with a man who had a lot of money to spend on his own, and I think that's why I'm so excited about it.

In hindsight, she was hasty.

Lin Shuju's attitude is more resolute, the more pressure on Guo Tai Ming, people at least is the daughter of ten billionaires, so it is not clear that married to their own "poor boy", how to say that you have to mix a little bit of fame to the old man to see.

At this point in time, it was the era of the rise of plastics, and the global plastics processing industry was moving to Hong Kong and Taiwan. The company's main goal is to provide the best possible service to its customers," he said. "The company's main goal is to provide the best possible service to its customers," he said.

"Hon Hai" is the name that Guo thought of, Hon for the sky, the sea for the earth, meaning that he is doing a big business between heaven and earth, the symbol is good, but the reality of the solid gave him a hammer.

Three

These are the first time I've seen the world's most popular TV show, and the first time I've seen the world's most popular TV show, I've seen the world's most popular TV show. But the thing about making money is that it's not just about hard work, it's also about experience, technology, and connections, and even a little bit of luck.

Regrettably, when the young Guo Tai Ming these are not available, plus suffered the world's first oil crisis, the price of raw materials rose sharply, the plastics industry is in a slump.

Busy two years, the money did not earn not to say, partners also withdrew one after another to run away, hundreds of thousands of capital loss also owed a debt. The old Guo family is so poor that even the money for milk powder is gone, the newborn son can only drink the rice soup, hungry and wailing.

Seeing her husband sighing all day long, and her family in such a poor state, the stubborn Lin Shuzhu had to pull down her mother's family to borrow 700,000 yuan to support Guo.

In 1976, at the age of 26, Mr. Kuo took a big order for a black-and-white TV knob with a warm "wife's book" in his pocket.

But when he took the order only to find that they do not have the technology to produce knob molds, can only go around begging, please outside the mold master to help to complete the production task.

In the whole process of order production, Kuo is keenly aware of the plastic processing belongs to the bottom of the industrial chain, mold processing is the core of the entire manufacturing industry, his mind a little lively up.

In 1977, Hon Hai already had millions of assets on its books, and with the advice of many friends, there were two seemingly good "money-making opportunities" in front of him.

On the one hand, Taiwan's economic takeoff, riding the real estate boom, to speculate on land; on the other hand, the rise of manufacturing, driven by a variety of raw material prices, but also by hoarding raw materials to make money.

Unexpectedly, Kuo chose to put all the money collectively to buy the most advanced Japanese mold machine, hire professional technicians.

He felt that speculation and hoarding of raw materials are speculative behavior, only to engage in industry, mastering the core technology in order to make money.

In spite of these words, this period of Kuo's suffering, on the one hand, to continue to spend money on training technicians, overtime maintenance of the new machine, while looking at the original land and raw materials within easy reach of the doubled and doubled the price of the shelves of anyone who feels depressed.

Not only that, but Kuo also moved his company to the remote Tucheng district of Taipei, which is a prison for economic offenders in Taiwan.

He was worried that if he committed any economic problems, his employees would at least be close enough to report back and keep the company running.

In addition to being fearful in his operations, Kuo is also really poor.

One year, after the New Year's Eve, after the company's employees sent the year-end bonus, the pocket is only left with 2,000 yuan, had to leave 1,000 yuan for the family to buy New Year's Eve dinner, the remaining 1,000 yuan, such as Mrs. back to her mother's home to symbolize the package of a few red envelopes, so as to fill a facade.

Fortunately, Mrs. Lin Shuju constantly give him encouragement, after all, is a university graduate, she firmly believe that her husband's decision is not wrong, let him go.

It has to be said that getting support from your family at any time is the most crucial step towards success.

After nearly four years of simmering, resisting the temptation of Guo's bitterness, with advanced technology and equipment, continue to receive orders from Europe and the United States and other countries of the electronic parts, business is rising, around the fast-money friends of the cause but came to an abrupt end.

4.

In 1980, Hon Hai's business was really booming, but the 30 year old Guo's heart was not happy.

Because of the reason to buy equipment, Guo often in Japan to visit, he found that the Japanese side is a "hen to raise chickens" model, large factories to support small factories to become their own "satellite factories", and each other to earn money in partnership.

Looking back at Taiwan, large factories bully small factories, small factories and each other to play price wars, fighting, the public can not repay the loan, factory closure, the legal person was shut down the news is common.

Guo made a decision: no longer play with local factories in Taiwan, to find the Americans to do business. It was this seemingly "pandering to foreigners" decision that gave birth to the later famous Foxconn.

In 1985, Kuo received an order to produce connectors for computer companies, which was officially linked to the "computer industry".

Because to enter the international arena, the brand had to have a foreign name, and Kuo came up with the name "FOXCONN (Foxconn)".

FOX means fox, implying that the enterprise should be as flexible and sensitive as a fox, and CONN is the abbreviation for Connector, which makes the nature of the enterprise clear at a glance.

This name is well deserved, in the development of connector production equipment, a lot of processes do not understand the Kuo declared: "Success in four ways: copying, research, creation, invention".

It is this flexible and a little wry corporate culture, so that Foxconn quickly grew up from the mold processing cut into the more complex "personal computer" production.

In order to open up overseas markets, Mr. Kuo went to the United States alone to look for customers. In a few weeks, by eating a hamburger every day and staying in a $12 motel, he traveled to 32 of the 51 U.S. states.

With the explosive growth of the global information technology industry, the luck of Foxconn came, Foxconn's professional equipment and technology recognized by overseas businesses, and got a lot of OEM orders.

Relying on the R&D strength invested in the early days, it took months for others to complete the process of design to mass production, and Foxconn only needed a few weeks or even less, and the price was actually lower than the peers.

In 1988, Foxconn was already a large enterprise with more than 1,000 people and revenues of more than 1 billion dollars, making it an important technology-based processor on Treasure Island.

But in this year, 38-year-old Guo Taiming once again made an important decision: to relocate the entire production base to the mainland.

Although at this point in time, the mainland has introduced a number of policies to support Taiwanese companies to set up factories in the mainland, but the majority of those who are watching, really willing to put into practice very few companies.

Fifth,

Kuo dared to break through the cross-strait political risk to the mainland to set up factories, both cost considerations, but also was forced.

With the economic takeoff in the 1980s, land and labor costs in Taiwan skyrocketed. For the same type of work, Taiwan's labor costs were five times higher than those on the mainland, and it was impossible to find people with money.

At the same time, compared to the mainland's various preferential policies, Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises can be described as laissez-faire, difficult and discriminatory.

It is for this reason that Kuo has already made plans for Hon Hai to move towards a globalized industry.

At this point in time, the mainland not only gave great concessions to Taiwanese businessmen in terms of land policy, but also gave full care and support in terms of taxation and labor recruitment.

Therefore, after the establishment of the Foxconn Industrial Park in Shenzhen, Kuo said confidently, "The mainland, in the future, will be the experimental battleground for our manufacturing technology, where we want to challenge the highest realm of manufacturing and sales."

After taking root in Shenzhen, Foxconn formally stepped into the fast lane of development, relying on ultra-high cost-effective and efficient, from Japan and South Korea and other countries precision manufacturing enterprises to snatch a lot of orders.

During the construction of the new plant in Longhua, Foxconn was in the temporary rented Huangtian plant to catch up with a batch of orders for Compaq computers, which were snatched from the mouth of South Korea's LG by Kuo Tai Ming.

As of the day before delivery, there are still more than 10,000 units of computer casing failed to complete, looking at the statute, Guo personally led all the employees divided into A, B group two groups of people to take turns on the assembly line, stopping 24 hours without stopping people non-stop equipment.

At 5:57 a.m., all the goods production and packing was completed, 3 minutes earlier than the expected time.

Efficient, punctual, lower prices than peers, while in order to dispel the concerns of partners, Foxconn patted his chest to ensure that they only do OEM, will never go to do related brand goods.

Such a business is really hard to find, and the hard work of signing for many years Guo finally had the opportunity to sign his name on the cooperation agreement with IBM, Intel, DELL, Sony and other industry giants, and the money is pouring in like running water.

To do OEM is to make money, but also to see when to do the most cost-effective, shrewd Kuo's brain has been counting accounts.

Although the cell phone OEM is the most profitable project for Guo, including the later TFT-LCD field, Foxconn is not the earliest entrant in these markets.

Before 1999, when domestic foundries were swarming to grab the cell phone foundry business, Kuo felt that the cost of manufacturing cell phones was too high, and no matter how manufacturers were invited, he stayed put and continued to do PC foundry business.

Until 2000, Kuo felt that the phone has been an indispensable communication tool for the public, which is not panic out.

With superior quality and technology, Foxconn took massive orders from many international cell phone brands and soon monopolized the global cell phone OEM industry.

Apple's Steve Jobs, who appreciated the quality of Foxconn's cell phones for Motorola, met with Kuo in secret and gave Foxconn the task of producing the iPhone.

In 2001, Hon Hai became the leading private company in Taiwan with revenues of 144.2 billion NTD. Foxconn was ranked second in the "Top 200 Chinese Exports", accounting for 6.2% of Shenzhen's total exports at this time.

Just one year later, this figure became 345 billion yuan, an increase of 70%. 52-year-old Kuo ranked 198th on the global Forbes list this year with 2.3 billion dollars, and for the fourth consecutive year, he was "Taiwan's richest man in science and technology".

Since Kuo moved to mainland China to found Foxconn, the average annual growth rate of more than 60%, the global market share and revenue soared, in the global EMS (professional manufacturing services provider) is almost the existence of the hegemony of the general.

Foxconn's success is naturally inseparable from the meticulous management that Kuo has been striving for, but it also seems to be less humane, and big trouble ensues.

Sixth,

2010 just started the year, Shenzhen Foxconn appeared the first workers jumped off the building.

Kuo did not care at first, millions of employees have so one or two suicide cases, it is normal.

Wan Wan did not expect, then just nine months, a succession of 14 Foxconn workers jumped off the building.

Public opinion was in an uproar, stock prices fell, officials questioned, and Kuo was dumbfounded.

Guo is not trying to find a way, after the fifth suicide, he took the initiative to announce a salary increase for all employees, and then invited the media to visit the site, but also invited a few flowery "young lady" around the factory, acting as a psychological counselor.

This is not all, Guo also used his private jet from his hometown of Shanxi Wutai Mountain to invite thirty monks to the deceased to do the deed, and he also knelt in the side of the pious silent prayer.

But it didn't work, and within a few days, another Foxconn employee jumped off the building.

Guo sighed and had to take an extremely simple and brutal approach, putting barbed wire outside the workers' dormitory building.

The effect is immediate, jumping from the employees did not, but Shenzhen this year, the wire also rose in price.

Leaving aside the feng shui not to talk about, employees jumped consecutively with Foxconn's harsh management system is inseparable.

It is said that in Longhua, Shenzhen, you only need to see which workers eyes, a look of not waking up, that will be Foxconn employees.

From childhood to receive militarized education, and served as a soldier of Guo Taiming Foxconn adopted a set of militarized management, in short, from life to work all the flow of operation, the workers as a "humanoid robot" to use.

Foxconn employees before joining the military training, work and life in the park must be strictly enforced in accordance with the Foxconn Employee Handbook.

According to the Manual, when working, no matter sitting, standing, all must listen to the whistle and act in unison, even if only standing, but also like a soldier must stand military posture.

Workers on the assembly line even a simple welding work, there is a whole set of sweeping, take the goods, welding and finish the program requirements, the head just follow the work of the left and right bob, never look around.

The whole set of actions down to repeat thousands of times a day, people do not stupid only strange.

Factory chat will be warned, more than three direct dismissal; to go to the bathroom can not be more than 10 minutes ...... such provisions in the staff on joining the strict inculcation.

In the factory, there is strict hierarchical management, and it is obvious what class you belong to by the color of your clothes, and the routes you take are completely different from each other.

What's even worse is that Foxconn's dormitory arrangements, hometowns and hometowns will never be arranged to live in the same room, for fear of gossiping and delaying the work, or engaging in tandem with the right and wrong.

In addition, Foxconn workers are not only free of food and lodging, all the life on the things are outsourced, laundry, cleaning have specialized companies to undertake.

It's not that Foxconn cares about its workers, but it can save money and time costs that are beyond its control, so that workers can put all their energy into their work.

Management is not easy, every day meeting like a military conference, not to mention the fear, Guo also has his own set of "urine theory", often teaching "your urine yellow? Not yellow? That's proof that you're not working hard enough."

This is in fact the so-called "process-oriented fine management" learned by Kuo in cooperation with large foreign brands, is also the basic principle of today's assembly line operation, to ensure that every person in the enterprise each part meets the standards of industrialized production, can be managed and controlled.

The problem is that foreign management has long realized that this behavior is somewhat anti-human, and has been through a large-scale equipment upgrades, the manual into automated operations, workers' rights and interests have been effectively protected.

But when it comes to Foxconn, it's been decades since they've been able to get away with cheap labor, and they've intentionally left the processes that were supposed to be automated to be completed by human beings.

The result of this is that people become robots, and the result is predictable.

Seven,

The reason behind this is simple: Foxconn has been able to keep its prices much lower than its competitors for a very long time because the gross margins have been so low that it's hard to imagine.

OEM an iPhone worth $1000, the big head is naturally taken by Apple, the small head is Japan and South Korea and other parts to the manufacturer, Foxconn earned less than $10, if you deduct the cost of doing business, the net profit may be less than 1 dollar.

This leads to an average gross profit of about 3% of Foxconn if you want to continue to operate, can only continue to reduce costs to maintain the wool in the sheep's body, profits naturally have to be extracted from the Foxconn workers.

When Foxconn Shenzhen was founded, the average labor in Taiwan was five times that of the mainland, and counting the various policies given by the governments around the mainland to attract foreign investment, which enabled Guo's costs to be much lower than those of his peers.

But what is unexpected is that even if Foxconn's management is harsh and unsympathetic, just when the jumping incidents occurred one after another, the entrance to the Foxconn factories across the country is still filled with long queues of job seekers.

Because compared to other companies, Foxconn's salary is still the highest, the management is also the most formal, think about it is also a little bit of a thought.

The fact is that Guo also has his own considerations.

The key to Foxconn's success is the "cost reduction systematization" proposed by Mr. Kuo, the whole process of effective cost control and efficiency enhancement, that is, the famous "deficit order, black letter shipment" system.

"Deficit order" refers to the lowest price from the hands of rivals to snatch the order, through strict control of the accuracy of the production process, the accuracy of the operation of the equipment, all the processes are dismantled, the management of the assessment layer.

After the decomposition of the steps to maximize cost control, and finally achieve customer satisfaction, their own profitability "black letter shipping" results.

In addition, when the new technology products appear in the market, Kuo seldom do "the first to eat crabs". Always wait for the expansion of the market scale, product system standardization, which waved the invincible price flag to take.

Not only that, with more than 10 R&D centers around the world, tens of thousands of R&D engineers, Foxconn has long moved from pure OEM to AI intelligence, 5G communications, precision manufacturing and other high-tech fields, crushing countless potential competitors with its technology.

In a competitive business environment, Foxconn has gradually become a "bun" in the eyes of local governments that can directly drive GDP.

At the 2018 World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, 68-year-old Guo said: Foxconn output value accounted for the whole of China's GDP exports of 3.9, imports of 3.6, accounting for the country's GDP of nearly 300 billion, and the next step will strive to raise to 5 points.

It is no wonder that when Foxconn was ready to move into Henan in 2009, the Henan provincial government in order to help recruiting, and even issued a special document, subcontracting the task of recruiting from the county and village levels, each worker can also get 200 yuan government subsidies.

Originally, some media also questioned the Henan government, which is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars to please Foxconn, but wait for Foxconn to complete the many layouts in Henan, see the figures of the people have closed their mouths.

2019, Henan's total import and export value, ten years from less than 20 billion yuan quickly increased to 500 billion, Foxconn a company import and export volume accounted for 60%, Henan smoothly into the national foreign trade provinces in the top ten.

Sichuan is also the same, Foxconn entered the Sichuan province, the total value of import and export of goods from less than 100 billion to 300 billion, Chengdu Foxconn a company import and export amount accounted for 19.2% of the province.

Kunshan, Yantai, Chongqing, Guiyang and other provinces and cities have also benefited from the introduction of Foxconn, not only from the import and export trade, but also from the corresponding improvement in the industrialization and modernization of the city.

It is undeniable that the arrival of Foxconn has not only solved the employment problem, but also brought a series of upstream and downstream industrial chains, and the local hi-tech and electronic industries have been rapidly upgraded, which has directly changed the economic production system of the whole city and even the whole province.

Therefore, no matter where Guo went to visit in mainland China, the local authorities would basically meet with the "god of wealth" in person.

Eight,

At Foxconn, the chairman of the board of directors, Mr. Kuo is a god-like existence.

On the one hand, his words are posted as quotations in every corner of the park, and on the other hand, there are countless people who sing his praises every day.

In this case, it is not surprising that the somewhat flamboyant Guo Dong said something like "Foxconn feeds a lot of mainlanders".

No matter how great Foxconn is, he is still a businessman who puts profits first.

In the past two years, Kuo has followed in the footsteps of big companies like Apple and quietly dropped tens of billions of dollars on new factories in India and Vietnam, which are all normal manifestations of a businessman looking for profit.

The "God of Wealth", who is worth hundreds of billions of dollars, is also known for his fickle and colorful love life on the island.

On March 12, 2005, his wife Lin Shu-Ru died of breast cancer. Just a few days earlier, the 55-year-old had just been named the richest man in Taiwan on the Forbes list.

Maybe he missed his wife, who had suffered for many years, not being able to see this day, Kuo faced the camera and sadly shouted: "God is not fair to me".

Back then, in order to thank his wife for staying with him all the way, Kuo spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy a castle in the Czech Republic named after Lin Shu-Ru's English name, which was rumored to be the best story in the history of the world.

Unfortunately, when his married wife was still alive, Kuo made the "mistake that all men make" and had a scandalous affair with a female employee of a financial company.

In the end, it was Lin Shu-Ru who endured the pain and Guo teamed up with him to send the other party to jail for extortion to end the matter.

It is estimated that the later Mr. and Mrs. Wu Xiubo understood this wave of tart operation and learned from it.

After Lin Shu-ru left, Guo repeatedly told the media that "his wife is irreplaceable".

But as the saying goes, "a man's mouth, the ghost of a man's lie", after his wife left, as if he had let himself go, and many female stars continue to rumors.

Among them are both and he jumped close to the hot dance of Lin Chi-ling, but also with his fingers together to attend the public occasions of Liu Jialing, as for some other eighteen lines of small stars are countless.

A series of explosive news caused Li Ao teacher can not go, put words straight: "He pull women have no standard, like a small animal in heat."

Whether or not it's an act, "Erling" has since disappeared from Kuo's side, replaced by a dance teacher, Zeng Xinying, who is 24 years younger than Kuo.

Interestingly, this Zeng teacher is the same dance teacher who guided Guo and Lin Chi-ling to dance hot dance, the relationship can not help but let people think about it.

In 2018, 68-year-old Guo married 44-year-old Zeng Xinying. At the wedding site, the old and strong Guo Taiming did 30 push-ups on the spot, and "tiger tiger" pushed the atmosphere of the scene to a climax.

Taiwan media intentionally asked why he was attracted to Zeng Xinying, and he said with a sincere face, "I can't smell the smell of money from her."

This is not very hurtful, but extremely insulting, and I don't know how actresses such as Lin Chi-ling and Liu Jia-ling felt when they heard it.

The first "sweetie", today is already a cloud of smoke. Guo and actress dating can be said to be a play, but on their own hand to build the Foxconn empire, that is certainly true love.

Although Kuo has said since 2001 that he wants to retire, but in 18 years, after experiencing a series of unexpected events such as employees jumping off buildings, the death of his successor's brother after a long illness, and the global financial crisis, he is relieved to know that he is still carrying the banner of Foxconn alone.

On June 21, 2019, 69-year-old Guo finally announced his retirement, handing over the post of chairman of Hon Hai to Liu Yangwei, who has followed him for decades.

From China to the Americas, and then to Europe, South America and Africa, Foxconn's factories are located in half of the global village, and the $100 billion empire that Kuo has built is called a business miracle among Chinese.

A lot of people will certainly talk about the pattern and vision of Guo, but the fact is that if he didn't step on the steps of the mainland's four-decade economic takeoff, enjoying countless preferential policies and decades of demographic dividends, he might not have been able to achieve today's results.

People who stand on the wind may soar to the sky, or they may suddenly fall from the clouds.

With the demographic dividend on the mainland fading, the cheap labor resources that Foxconn relies on to survive are shrinking rapidly, and there are more competitors like BYD and Lucent Precision around, how can the retired Kuo feel relaxed.

Foxconn, which has left the company, will have to wait and see where it goes from here.
