What Threats Will China Face in Implementing Evidence Based Medicine

Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) is an emerging discipline that has developed rapidly in recent years. In the short span of more than twenty years, it has been widely recognized by medical and health practitioners and flourished globally due to its significant positive impact on clinical medical activities and health decision-making. However, due to the special characteristics of the basic national conditions, healthcare system, and healthcare environment, EBM is far from being popularized and promoted in our country, and in particular, it is faced with even more serious difficulties and problems in the primary healthcare institutions.

It is found that the knowledge of the primary medical personnel in China is slow to be updated, and a large part of the medical personnel do not have enough knowledge of evidence-based medicine and have a weak concept of evidence-based medicine. At the same time, due to the limitations of language and computer skills, the primary health care workers are to a certain extent bound to learn the theory of evidence-based medicine and apply the evidence of evidence-based medicine. In addition, insufficient support from relevant departments, especially policy support, and inadequate infrastructure are also problems faced by primary care organizations in practicing evidence-based medicine in China.

In order to comprehensively improve the clinical medical level of China and promote the harmonious development of health care in different regions and levels, it is particularly urgent to promote the popularization of the application of evidence-based medicine in primary health care institutions from various aspects.
