As of May 2023, Toshiba Ultrasound has been acquired by Canon. The news stems from a report in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun that Canon has acquired Toshiba Medical Systems for 700 billion yen (about Rs. 40.5 billion). Toshiba Medical Systems, a subsidiary that manufactures and sells Toshiba ultrasound. This acquisition is of great significance, not only changing the landscape of the medical equipment industry, but also signaling the future direction of the two companies.
For Canon, the acquisition of Toshiba Ultrasound will enable it to gain stronger competitiveness in the medical equipment field and further expand its market share. And for Toshiba, although it lost ownership of its ultrasound business, the acquisition allows its parent company, the Toshiba Group, to focus on its other core businesses to better cope with the increasingly competitive market.
