The cooperation project started in 2009 in 15 counties in Hebei Province, 11 of which are national-level poverty-stricken counties. According to the project implementation report of the first year: 155 pieces of medical equipment were funded in the 15 project counties, and a total of 42,378 people were treated;
15 ambulances funded in the project traveled a total of 119,569 kilometers, transported 1,671 patients, and went to the villages to supervise and screen high-risk pregnancies and births for 399 times.
Since July 2010, the "Fonterra Rural Maternal and Child Health Program" has been implemented in Gansu Province, where in 38 counties:
Donating 15 medical ambulances to 15 maternal and child healthcare institutions for the transportation of pregnant women to hospital for delivery and referral of pregnant women in critical condition, which has effectively increased the rate of pregnant women being admitted to hospital for delivery;
Providing 15 ambulances to maternal and child healthcare institutions for the transportation of patients for 1,671 times.
Providing 264 sets of medical equipment to maternal and child healthcare institutions to strengthen the medical service capacity of maternal and child healthcare institutions and effectively improve local maternal and child health;
Providing free training to more than 17,000 healthcare personnel to improve local medical technology and promote maternal and child healthcare work.
During the one-year project, the implementation report shows that: 14,326 healthcare workers have been trained and their medical skills have been upgraded; the project donated 15 ambulances to the local ***, transported 4,108 critically ill patients, and traveled a cumulative total of 223,895 kilometers; and financed 202 sets of medical equipment for the local community, which has saved a cumulative total of 890,106 lives; The hospital delivery rate has increased by 4.46%, and the gynecological disease screening rate has increased by 10%; the project implementation areas have made use of county radio, television, newspaper columns, slogans and other forms to popularize knowledge of maternal and child health care, with a publicity coverage rate of more than 95%, benefiting more than 900,000 local people.
From July 2011, the program will be extended to Guizhou Province. China Agricultural University, Jiangnan University, South China University of Science and Technology, Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry and other five colleges and universities in animal husbandry and food industry related majors of the poor and outstanding students.
