N08926 corrosion resistance:
926 is an austenitic stainless steel with a similar chemical composition to alloy 904L, which has an increased nitrogen content of about 0.2% and a molybdenum content of about 6.5%. The increased nitrogen and molybdenum content significantly improves the resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in halide media. At the same time, nickel and nitrogen not only ensure the stability of the metallographic phase, but also reduce the tendency to precipitate intergranular phases during hot working or welding than alloys with a low nickel and nitrogen content. The excellent resistance to localized corrosion coupled with a nickel content of 25% gives alloy 926 particularly outstanding corrosion resistance in chloride-ion media. Tests in various FGD systems with limestone slurries at chloride concentrations of 10,000-70,000 ppm, pH values of 5-6, and operating temperatures of 50-68°C have shown that alloy 926 is essentially free of pitting and crevice corrosion after a test period of 1-2 years. alloy 926 also has excellent corrosion resistance in other chemical media, as well as high-temperature, high-concentration media, including Sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acid gases, seawater, salts and organic acids. 926 alloy is the material of choice for the German National Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, Germany, for the BAM Catalog, Chapter 6, "Specification for Hazardous Goods Storage and Transportation Vessels". In addition, optimum corrosion resistance can only be achieved if the material is in the correct metallurgical state and clean.
