It is an intelligent medical device that can be used by the public, and is characterized by voice prompts and visual illustrations (usually for the uninitiated), as well as the ability to automatically analyze the heart rhythm and prompt for defibrillation, so that the user does not have to worry about defibrillating incorrectly because they don't know how to use it, or don't know how to read an electrocardiogram.
