Medical masks are made of one or more layers of nonwoven composite fabrics, the main production processes include meltblown, spunbond, hot air or needle punching, etc., with resistance to liquids, filtration of particles and bacteria and other effects, is a kind of medical protection textiles.

The medical mask consists of a mask body and a tension strap, in which the mask body is divided into inner, middle and outer layers, the inner layer is skin-friendly material (ordinary sanitary gauze or non-woven fabric), the middle layer is the isolation and filtration layer (ultra-fine polypropylene fiber meltblown material layer), and the outer layer is a special material anti-bacterial layer (non-woven fabric or ultra-thin polypropylene meltblown material layer). Classification

By performance characteristics and scope of application, medical masks can be divided into: medical protective masks, medical surgical masks, general medical masks.

1. Medical protective mask

Medical protective masks for medical personnel and related staff for the protection of airborne respiratory infectious diseases, is a closed self-absorption filtration of medical protective products, high level of protection, especially for diagnostic and therapeutic activities in contact with patients with respiratory infections through airborne or proximity to the spread of respiratory infections by droplets when worn. It can filter particles in the air and block droplets, blood, body fluids, secretions, etc. It is a one-time use product. Medical protective masks can block most bacteria, viruses and other pathogens, WHO recommends that medical personnel use anti-particulate protective masks to prevent viral infections in hospital air. Medical protective masks in line with GB19083-2003 "medical protective masks technical requirements" standard, the important technical indicators include non-oil particles filtration efficiency and airflow resistance. Specific indicators are as follows:[3]

1) Filtration efficiency: under the condition of air flow (85±2) L/min, the filtration efficiency of aerodynamic median diameter (0.24±0.06) μm sodium chloride aerosol is not less than 95%, that is, it conforms to the grade of N95 (or FFP2) and above. Can block the airborne diameter <5μm infectious agents or close contact with infectious agents transmitted by droplets.
