"As a responsible company with roots in China, we are part of China and have a far-reaching responsibility to support its people and society as a whole."
This is the response given by Netcom after in-depth communication with BMW China and BMW Brilliance officials regarding the status of donations for this new coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.
The emergency mechanism plays an obvious role in the rapid implementation of the essence of the donation. On January 26, BMW (China) Automotive Trading Co. and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. decided to donate 5 million RMB to the Hubei Charity Federation through the BMW Warm Heart Fund of the China Charity Federation in an emergency. BMW became one of the first automobile companies to come to the aid of the Wuhan epidemic, and at that moment, I believe every Chinese could understand what "in China, for China, for the world" means.
The donation was mainly used to subsidize the urgent need for masks, protective clothing, protective masks and other supplies and related treatment in Hubei province, especially in local hospitals in Wuhan. As the first step in the crisis response, and mainly considering the urgency and timeliness, the donation was made through the China Charity Federation and Hubei Provincial Charity Association to purchase the most urgently needed supplies for Hubei Province and Wuhan, where the epidemic was most severe at the time. BMW Brilliance and BMW China officials said, "As with all of our CSR efforts, we first need to understand the significant needs of society, and then utilize our resources and strengths to contribute to society in the best way possible."
Donations are one of the most important elements of CSR, but as many of us are concerned, it's when the donations materialize and whether they're actually used where they're needed that matters most.
BMW China and BMW Brilliance officials also gave us a very definite answer: "The emergency response mechanism of the China Charity Federation's BMW Warm Heart Fund is very timely and effective in the face of sudden natural disasters or humanitarian aid. For example, the first 5 million yuan donation arrived at the Hubei Charity Federation on the second day of the donation, and was used to purchase the most urgently needed masks, protective suits, protective masks and other scarce materials for Wuhan Hospital at that time. In the Wenchuan earthquake and Yushu relief that year, also played a timely and efficient emergency function."
On February 12, just 17 days after the first donation, BMW China and BMW Brilliance announced a further donation of RMB 25 million for the Chinese community to combat the new coronary pneumonia epidemic. The donation was made to the China Population Welfare Foundation (CPWF) through the Health Angels - Health and Wellness Volunteer Initiative for the purchase of medical equipment such as monitors and non-invasive ventilators that are currently in dire need in hospitals in Wuhan and other cities and states in Hubei Province. At the same time, it also funded the opening of the first nationwide psychological counseling hotline for healthcare workers, patients and volunteers fighting on the front lines of the epidemic, specializing in serving the courageous healthcare workers, patients and volunteers fighting on the front lines of the epidemic across the country.
"At present, all the medical equipment (65 monitors, 239 ventilators, 33 air sterilizers) has arrived at Wuhan Tongji Hospital and put into use." Regarding the number of medical equipment specifically implemented by the second donation, BMW China and BMW Brilliance officials told Netcom, "As the virus spreads, the needs of all aspects of society are growing, especially the needs of Hubei Province and Wuhan City for medical equipment and supplies, and the needs of frontline healthcare workers seeking help (including medical supplies and psychological counseling).
