Which skills are needed for the design of automation equipment?

Skills for designers

1. Connector construction

Regular, simple connectors are usually made of plastic (housing) with terminals, while more complex connectors are made of other accessories or components depending on the actual product. Common components include housings, springs and shrapnel. Complex and highly sophisticated connectors are manufactured in dozens of production stations. If these connectors are to be automated, it is important to consider the feasibility of concentrating automation on one part of the process.

2. Connector function

Application of different industries and the actual product on the connector, its function is not the same, the reaction in the structure and product precision also makes a difference. Like some connectors need to be used in the client for SMT mounting, or wave soldering, which has special requirements for the parallelism of the connector, or the degree of orthogonality and angular spacing, etc. Out of the corresponding specifications, the connector may not be able to be used in the same way. If the connector is out of specification, it may not be able to be used or it may affect the client's use of the connector.

For design engineers, it is important to understand not only the requirements of the connector manufacturer, but also the application of the product as much as possible. This will allow them to take into account any control factors or considerations during the design process.

3. Characteristics of the connector

In the design of automation equipment, usually take into account the dimensional tolerances of the product to adjust and set the size of the equipment track. Usually according to the connector manufacturer's product drawing surface labeling size to design, but in the actual production, and there will be a variety of problems, such as the product can not be normal through the track. There is a problem of plastic properties, or plastic and terminals in the actual molding process size deviation, according to the ideal tolerance design of the track can not be with the actual product smooth with the production.

For the terminals, often because of the need for plating in the production process, the need to bend in the assembly process, so that in the production of high-speed machinery and equipment, there will be plating scraped off or the bending angle is too large to appear broken or twisted phenomenon.

As a mechanical equipment design engineers, the connector is applied to the material characteristics of the necessary understanding.

4. Connector quality

For the current high-precision connector products, because the application requirements. Both for the appearance of the product or the size of the side of the requirements are very high. It is necessary and important to understand the dimensional requirements of the final product or the actual application of the connector. This is especially true for automation equipment, or non-standard mechanical equipment designed to meet customer requirements, when considering the reasonableness of the design solution.

Reasonable and efficient design solutions are able to meet the customer's quality requirements on the one hand, and minimize the problem of excess quality caused by overly stringent requirements on the other.
