The relationship between China and Myanmar has been very good for a long time, because Myanmar has made good friends with China after its independence because of its system, which is not approved by the West, and has gained a lot of support from China. And Burma is an important strategic location for China, China is also very happy to befriend with it, in the political and economic fields to give Burma a lot of assistance. And it has been systematically opening up an oil pipeline from Yunnan to Myanmar's ports.
But in recent years, China-Myanmar relations have taken a turn for the worse, almost reversing course. This is because Myanmar's domestic struggle for democracy is getting stronger and stronger, and the Myanmar government is under tremendous pressure; secondly, the West supports Myanmar's westernized reforms and promises economic assistance. So Myanmar has gradually turned back to the West. This is bound to alienate China-Myanmar relations, which is a major blow to China. The Chinese government is now taking steps to try to maintain the close relationship between China and Myanmar or to prevent it from breaking down. Myanmar is not the same as Pakistan. Pakistan, because of the ever-present threat of India, wants to maintain good and solid Sino-Pakistani relations even if it is pro-US, which is Pakistan's heartfelt wish, so China is not worried about Sino-Pakistani relations; while Myanmar, although its relations with neighboring Thailand are not good, is not threatened and does not have to rely on China to control Thailand, but rather is more worried about China's possible territorial aspirations, which have been limited to the ideological issue of war with the West. In the past, it was only the ideological issue that made Myanmar at odds with the West. If this obstacle is cleared, Myanmar will integrate into the West in a more logical manner. China-Myanmar relations are facing a difficult situation!
