You can wrap it yourself, but look for a sponge on the copper pipe, no sponge wrap or not, it will still condense. When the air conditioner is in normal use, you can't cover the outdoor unit with a plastic cover. If the cover up, not only affect the normal use, the air conditioner will have other very serious problems. You can consider installing a canopy-like thing fixed on top of the air conditioner outdoor unit, or put a piece of hard plastic plate on top of the air conditioner outdoor unit.
