Why plug-in are using WiFi, because this is the most convenient for the user, for the manufacturer can also go straight to the cloud. The current users do not have a lot of smart devices at home, and our products may be the first smart devices for them. the biggest disadvantage of WiFi compared to Bluetooth is that it is troublesome to set up, but once it is set up, it will be much more usable. The advantage of Bluetooth is that it is very convenient to interoperate with cell phones, but WiFi is more convenient, as long as the cell phone can access the Internet, you can interoperate, even if it is to go to the local network protocol, the coverage of the router is also larger, not in the same room can also be connected.WiFi can be done anytime, anywhere, to connect the person and the device, the cloud and the device or the device and the device, and even the docking of the different platforms is very easy, so it is the most pervasive. WiFi also has drawbacks, as follows:
One is the high power consumption, it is difficult to use WiFi for a long time without plugging in the device, and you need to charge or change the battery frequently, which will bring trouble to users. However, many people do not comply with the standard protocol thing, with the standard protocol is also useless. In short, this side of the low-power consumption is still relatively chaotic, and it is difficult to interoperate with devices from different manufacturers.
The second is the high cost, we have been promoting the WiFi chip price reduction, soon the cost will be able to do below 10 yuan, by then the cost of the problem is not obvious. If you give up WiFi just because of the cost issue, it's actually more than worth it.
Third, after more WiFi devices, the router load will be very large, and the star architecture is not very efficient. If the development of smart home is going well, after a number of years there may be dozens of lights at home, hundreds of sensors, this time the current WiFi protocol can not hold out, many people suggest that in many similar devices when using ZigBee or BLE Mesh to replace WiFi. this trend is not yet obvious, and WiFi will have its own Mesh protocol, not necessarily be replaced.
Fourth, there is no standard application layer protocol, easy to cause the monopoly of large vendors, different vendors of equipment can be interoperable depends on the game between the vendors.
To pull so much, are the current thinking, adhere to WiFi not because we also do routers, but believe that WiFi is more suitable for the current market.
