In the Control Panel, double-click the Modem icon. Verify the make and model of your modem, run the Install New Modem
Wizard to detect the modem and verify that it is currently configured correctly. If your modem does not appear in the list of installed modems
, click Add and select the appropriate modem. If the manufacturer and type are incorrect and your device manufacturer and type are not in the list, try using the Hayes-compatible option in General Modems, set the baud rate to the maximum supported by the modem, and click OK. Remove all modem entries from the Exclude Conflicts list.
2Check that your modem is ready to use
Double-click the System icon in the Control Panel, then click the Device Management tab, select your modem in the list and click Properties, and make sure that "Device already exists, please use" is checked.
3. Check for correct ports
Double-click the Modem icon in the Control Panel, select your modem, and then click Properties and on the General tab, verify that
the ports listed are correct. If not, select the correct port and click OK.
4. Verify that the I/O address and IRQ settings for the serial port are correct
Double-click the System icon in the Control Panel, click the Device Manager tab, then click Ports, select a port, then click Properties, and then click the Resource tab to display the current resource settings for that port. Refer to the modem's manual to find the correct settings, in the Resources dialog box, check the Conflicting Devices List to see if the resources used by the modem are conflicting with any other devices, if the modem is conflicting with another device, click Change Settings, and then click Configure without Resource Conflicts.
Note: Do not use a modem on COM3 if there is a mouse or other device on COM1. Typically COM1 and COM3 ports use the same
similar IRQs and cannot be used at the same time on most computers. the same problem exists with COM2 and COM4. If possible, change the IRQ settings for the COM3 and
COM4 ports so that they no longer conflict. Also, there are some graphics cards that have addresses that conflict with the COM4 port, so if you find a conflict, use a different port, or replace your graphics adapter.
