Shanxi Medical University, the ancient name of "Sanjin", located in the middle of the Yellow River basin, known as the "cradle of Chinese civilization".
Shanxi, known as "Sanjin" in ancient times, is located in the middle of the Yellow River Basin and is known as the "cradle of Chinese civilization". Shanxi is also located inland, the location advantage is not strong, the economic development is single, the medical resources are weak, and the development of higher medical education is insufficient. The difficult environment has inspired the enterprising spirit of the people of Sanjin, and called for the commitment and courage of the contemporary medical practitioners to devote themselves to the cause of medical education. In the journey of building "Healthy China" and "Healthy Shanxi", the school keeps its original intention, bears the responsibility with benevolence, carries the heavy load, takes the initiative to seek the health and welfare of 37 million Shanxi people, devotes itself to cultivating the good doctors with profound medical theory and high moral ability, and organizes the higher medical education to the satisfaction of the people. The school's first step was to establish a higher medical education.
The predecessor of the school was the Shanxi Medical Training Institute, which was founded in 1919 in the ancient city of Hezhou, and was changed to the private Shanxi Chuanzhi Medical College in 1932, renamed Shanxi University Medical College in 1940, and upgraded to the Medical College of the National University of Shanxi in 1946. After the founding of New China, the school entered into a new period of development, established independently and renamed Shanxi Medical College in 1953, and became one of the six higher medical colleges and universities in China with a health department in 1955, and was renamed Shanxi Medical University in 1996. The university was the first undergraduate school of forensic medicine approved by the Ministry of Education, one of the first master's degree authorizing units, one of the first bachelor's degree authorizing units, one of the third batch of doctoral degree authorizing units in the country and the first batch of doctoral degree authorizing units in Shanxi, one of the first doctoral degree authorizing units in nursing, one of the 25 medical schools in the country that launched the seven-year clinical medicine program, one of the first eight medical schools in the country that resumed the undergraduate program of pediatrics, and one of the first medical schools in the western part of the country to resume the pediatrics program.
