About Insulin Pump~

Insulin pump:

It is a treatment that uses an artificial intelligence-controlled insulin input device to maximally mimic the physiological secretion pattern of insulin through continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion 24 hours a day for better control of hyperglycemia, and is commonly known as the "artificial pancreas ".

Epilot insulin pump

The insulin pump, which is the size of a beeper and needs to be carried around, injects insulin into the body through small needles and tubes that are permanently placed under the skin. Insulin can be given in basal and pre-meal high doses.

As a device for continuous subcutaneous infusion of insulin, the insulin pump is, in principle, indicated for all diabetic patients requiring insulin therapy.

Compared with multiple insulin subcutaneous injections, continuous subcutaneous infusion of insulin pump can significantly shorten the control time of hyperglycemia, clear the toxicity of hyperglycemia faster, maximize the improvement of pancreatic β-cell function, and reduce the insulin resistance. At the same time the incidence of hypoglycemia is low and the amount of insulin required for treatment is relatively small.

What are the advantages of insulin pumps?

1. Improvement of glycemic control

The difference in absorption of routinely injected insulin can be as high as 52%, whereas insulin pumps use a short-acting insulin and a fixed injection site, with a difference in absorption of less than 3%, and mimic the normal insulin secretion pattern of continuous and precise insulin infusion,< strong>Smooth blood glucose control and greatly improved glycosylated hemoglobin levels.

2. Reduce hypoglycemia

The micro-continuous infusion of insulin pumps does not accumulate in the subcutaneous area, preventing unforeseen hypoglycemia and reducing the incidence of severe hypoglycemia by 85%.

3. Overcome the dawn phenomenon

Insulin pump therapy is the only treatment method that can flexibly set the nighttime insulin release in segments, and you can set the tiny basal dose according to your needs for 24-hour continuous infusion, and the dose can be changed every half an hour, so you can better control the dawn phenomenon.

4. Improvement of quality of life

The use of insulin pump therapy does not require multiple injections per day, which allows the patient to have greater freedom in the organization of meals, work, sleep and activities that is not available in the traditional multiple injection therapy.

5. Complications can be delayed by 15.3 years

The 10-year DCCT study in the United States showed that diabetic patients who underwent intensive treatment (42% wore insulin pumps) had a 60% reduction in the risk of complications, greatly reducing long-term medical costs.

6. Increase confidence

Enhance the health and nutritional status of diabetic patients, improve the courage and confidence of patients to overcome the disease, and significantly reduce the heavy mental and psychological pressure caused by the disease.

7, dietary freedom is higher

Increased freedom of eating for diabetic patients, the diversity and flexibility of life, and improved quality of life.

Epilot insulin pump

In all the treatments for diabetes, many methods can make the blood glucose control good, but many clinical observations have found that: only the intensive insulin treatment given by the insulin pump can make diabetic patients' HbA1c closest to normal without increasing the risk of hypoglycemia.
