Following the establishment of the Ciguang Nursery School, in 1963, Li Bing-Nan founded the Bodhi Hospital, the first modernized Buddhist hospital in Taiwan. First, Dr. Yu Ling-bo, a disciple of Dr. Li, conceived the idea that it would be a Buddhist merit if Buddhists could run a hospital to serve the Buddhist community, solve the vegetarian problem of hospitalization for monks, and help Pure Land practitioners with their deathbed prayers. After a year's gestation, under the leadership of Elder Li, a member of the Lotus Society, Mr. Huang Xueyin, provided a store in the downtown area free of rent, and Mr. Yu Lingbo provided the medical equipment to set up the outpatient department of the Buddhist Hospital before planning the construction of the official hospital. The outpatient clinic was opened on the Buddha's Birthday in 1963, and was named the Buddhist Bodhi Hospital, with Dr. Yu Ling Po as its director. Dr. Yu wrote an article entitled "The Present Situation of the Buddhist Bodhi Hospital and the Ideal for the Future" in the monthly magazine The Bodhi Tree, followed by an article written by Dr. Zhou Xuan De, who called for the establishment of the Buddhist Bodhi Hospital and proposed the donation of a hospital room.
Because of Li Bingnan's reputation, under the publicity of the monthly magazine "Bodhi Tree," the support and response of the Buddhist community at home and abroad, have donated to the construction of the sick room, living in Canada, Mr. Zhan Liwu, a resident of the Shengxi Shenglian room was donated alone. The hospital was officially opened on July 9, 1966, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Hsu Ching-chung, which was an unprecedented event. In Taiwan society, Bodhi Hospital is a first-class new hospital. Subsequently, an elderly home and a medical clinic were built on the hospital's vacant lot, and it was reorganized as the Bodhi Relief Institute, which became one of the famous relief organizations in the society.
The social welfare program founded by Elder Lee reached its peak with the establishment of the Bodhi Hospital and the Bodhi Almshouse. He also established the "Inner Canon Class" to cultivate Dharma promotion talents, and founded Dharma promotion and cultural organizations such as the Minglun Monthly Magazine, the Chinglian Publishing House, the Taichung Lotus Society Trusted Sutra Printing Association, and the Taichung Sutra Annotation and Translation Association.
