Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lloyd's Register (LR). Founded in 1760, LR is the world's first ship classification and inspection organization, is also one of the oldest enterprises in Britain. In the course of more than 240 years of continuous development, LR has gradually become a globally recognized authority to provide third-party independent inspection, supervision and certification, "A1 at Lloyd's" in the dictionary can be found in the phrase has become a symbol of quality. LRQA adheres to the tradition of excellence of the LR, in the industry because of its impartiality, authority and independence of the enjoyment of a high reputation.
LRQA was founded in 1985 and issued its first certificate of accreditation outside of the UK in 1986. LRQA was the first certification body to be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). The scope of accreditation includes a wide range of industries. It has also been recognized globally by major industrial national accreditation boards.
LRQA has more than 280 offices in over 110 countries. To date, more than 53,000 certificates have been issued globally for various management systems.
