The history of Xuzhou Medical University can be traced back to the Jiangsu Provincial College of Medicine and Politics, which was founded in 1934, and the Xuzhou Branch of Nanjing Medical College, which was established by Nanjing Medical College and moved to Xuzhou in 1958. 1959, the New Hailian Medical College was incorporated into the university, and it was named Xuzhou Medical College in 1960, and Xuzhou School of Hygiene was incorporated into the university in 2000, and it was formally renamed in March, 2016, as "Xuzhou Medical University".
