Fuzhou, referred to as "Rong", also known as Rongcheng, is known in history. It is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital and the core city of Fuzhou metropolitan area under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province. It is one of the central cities in the economic zone on the west side of the Taiwan Strait, and it is a riverside and coastal ecological garden city approved by the State Council. By the end of 2020, the city had jurisdiction over six municipal districts, six counties and Fuqing City, with a total area of 1 1968 square kilometers, a built-up area of 4 16 square kilometers and a permanent population of 8.42 million.
