It is a flammable polymer with a yellow flame, black smoke, and a special cinnamon smell.

Mechanical properties

ABS has excellent mechanical properties, its impact strength is excellent, and can be used at extremely low temperatures; ABS has excellent wear resistance and good dimensional stability. It is also oil-resistant and can be used for bearings under medium load and speed. The creep resistance of ABS is greater than that of PSF and PC, but smaller than that of PA and POM. The flexural strength and compressive strength of ABS are among the worst among plastics. The mechanical properties of ABS are greatly affected by temperature.

Thermal properties

The heat distortion temperature of ABS is 93~118℃, and the product can be increased by about 10℃ after annealing treatment. ABS can still show a certain degree of toughness at -40°C and can be used in the temperature range of -40~100°C.

Electrical properties

ABS has good electrical insulation and is almost unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency, and can be used in most environments.

Environmental performance

ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkali and various acids, but it is soluble in ketones, aldehydes and chlorinated hydrocarbons and is affected by glacial acetic acid. , vegetable oil and other corrosion will cause stress cracking. ABS has poor weather resistance and is prone to degradation under the influence of ultraviolet light; after being exposed outdoors for half a year, the impact strength drops by half.

Processing properties of ABS plastic

ABS, like PS, is a thermoplastic with excellent processing properties and can be processed by common processing methods.

The melt fluidity of ABS is better than PVC and PC, but worse than PE, PA and PS, and similar to POM and HIPS; the flow characteristics of ABS are non-Newtonian fluids; its melt viscosity and processing temperature Both are related to shear rate, but are more sensitive to shear rate.

ABS has good thermal stability and is not prone to degradation. ABS has a high water absorption rate and should be dried before processing. The drying conditions for general products are a temperature of 80~85°C and a time of 2~4 hours; for products with special requirements (such as electroplating), the drying conditions are a temperature of 70~80°C and a time of 18~18 hours. ABS products are prone to internal stress during processing. The size of the internal stress can be tested by immersing it in glacial acetic acid. If the stress is too great and the product is absolutely prohibited from stress cracking, it should be annealed. The specific conditions are to place it in a hot air circulation at 70~80°C.
