1. Crankshaft and main bearings
Crankshaft is mounted on the lower part of the cylinder block of a long shaft, the shaft is equipped with offset connecting rod journal, that is, the crankshaft crank pin, which is used to convert the reciprocating motion of the piston connecting rod into rotary motion. Oil supply passages are drilled inside the crankshaft to supply lubricating oil to the main and connecting rod bearings. The main bearings that support the crankshaft inside the cylinder are plain bearings.
2. Cylinder block
The cylinder block is the backbone of an internal combustion engine, and all other parts of a diesel engine are mounted on the cylinder block with screws or other connections. The cylinder block has many threaded holes for bolting to other parts. There are also holes or standoffs in the cylinder block to support the quill; drilled holes to support the camshaft; and cylinder holes that can be fitted into the cylinder liner.
3. Pistons, piston rings and connecting rods
The role of the piston and the piston rings fitted in its ring grooves is to transmit the pressure of fuel and air combustion to the connecting rods attached to the crankshaft. The function of the connecting rod is to connect the piston to the crankshaft. Connecting the piston to the connecting rod is the piston pin, which is usually a full-floating type (the pin floats against both the piston and the connecting rod).
4. Camshaft and Timing Gear
In a diesel engine, the camshaft operates the intake and exhaust valves; in some diesel engines, it also drives the lube pump or injection pump. The camshaft is timed by the crankshaft through a timing gear or camshaft gear bared to the front gear of the crankshaft. This drives the camshaft and also guarantees that the valves of the diesel engine are in the exact position with the crankshaft and pistons.
5. Cylinder head and valves
The main function of the cylinder head is to provide a cover for the cylinders. In addition, the cylinder head consists of intake and exhaust channels that allow air to enter the cylinder and exhaust gases to exit. These air passages are opened and closed by actuated valves mounted in valve tubes on the cylinder head.
6. FUEL SYSTEM
The fuel system injects the exact amount of fuel into the cylinders of the diesel engine at the exact moment depending on the load and speed of the engine.
7. Supercharger
The supercharger is an exhaust gas driven air pump that supplies air under pressure to the diesel engine. This increase in pressure, called supercharging, improves the efficiency of the diesel engine.
