The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, also known as the Gastrointestinal Anorectal Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (referred to as the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University), was founded in 1965. On February 5, 2007, the Guangzhou Municipal Government handed over the former Sixth People's Hospital of Guangzhou to Sun Yat-sen University and renamed it the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU-GIH).
